Yes, in the summer thats how we catch our mullet for bait. Rod & Reel, and cane pole.
Bout every August the ladyfish come up the creek (to spawn I think). bout a week or so after they show up you can catch all day long.
I take it by "big uglies" you mean Black Drum? Normaly they show up about mid to late June, in to July and August.

Not sure if anyone has caught sharks in CC, but I do know that bull sharks will go miles in land in to freshwater. next month you need to stick half a crab on a giant circle hook and pitch it out there... I'm more of a carp and gar kinda guy.... more fun. GG

Lol, you're gonna have to explain to me how the 15lb average buff you catch are "more fun" then 20-40lb plus black drum you might catch, to say nothing of the bigger, crazier stuff that wanders in there lol.

yes, the buffs don't fight as hard but then again, the big carp I lost fought harder than my big Black Drum, but it's more the style of the techniques, and tackle, baits, etc, that have me more in to carping.
That and I have always been the odd ball of the family, Always making my own trail, never following everyone Else's.
That's just me being me.

Those reds fight like mad. Did you forget this? ...after bout 4-5 casts I felt a quick "tap, tap" so I set the hook only to find I was being OWNED by a large, angry fish!....The dern thing almost spooled me 2 different times...
