Thanks! I might have to go get a bait bucket! fill it up and hit the lake =). Do they stripers bite when down there when there is a slack current? or does it need to be running?

Bfail, if you fish the river below the dam past the 1000' cable or from your kayak you will need an Oklahoma fishing license. If you fish from your kayak in the lake the $12.50 Lake Texoma license is the way to go. It is not good below the dam.

The line isn't the 1000' cable. It's Shawnee Creek.

Scroll down to Lower Red River (below Lake Texoma), it has a graphic there showing it.

Still if you are wading in the water while fishing you need an Oklahoma license. Most fly fishermen wade while fishing therefore would need an Oklahoma license.

I have wondered just how strict they are enforcing that law. I have seen many fishermen have to walk a fish down the bank to land it when the floodgates are open. At some point they wade in the river either at the bottom of the wall or to go around a small tree/bush that is in the water.

Well...seeing as how they now have actual coordinates for the boundary on the website above, I doubt they care if you're just gettin' your feet wet. Seems like (can't remember who I heard it from, may have been from a GW) if you're wading from the TX bank and weren't WAY out there (e.g. only 10 yards out) , they left ya alone. But since they've got GPS coordinates up there, they likely enforce it pretty strictly if you cross the line.

When I was there two weeks ago, I stop by the dam to check it out. there was two guys wading, they got to close to the discharge area and were told to get out by somebody who worked there. they were also told that if they were going to be in the water period, they needed okl license. They both went in from the texas side, I really dont think that if have one foot on land and other in the water, that youre goin to get in troble.

You can be standing in the water all the way down to Shawnee creek with a tx license.
