Being totally new to fishing for buffalo/carp, is there anyway to target specificly buffalo and not carp or is it a tossup/numbers game? If primarily targeting buffalo what wouuld be the better baits to use and what type habitait and water conditions should I seek? I quess I need a primer in this subject. LOL

If you want to target Buffalo, go to Caney Creek. If you want to target Carp, go anywhere else. he he

If there are both species present, you will catch them both using the same baits/rigs/methods. Some anglers will use longer leaders(>8") and smaller, sweeter baits in deeper water when targeting Buffs.

That being said, there are times when you will get into both species regardless of what you're using.

Good Luck!!

Chad

funny you say that cuz KC and I fished Grapevine last night. He fished to the right of me with the same baits on half the rods. He caught 9 buffs with the biggest 23#6 and I caught 3 common carp. No carp for him and no buffs for me. We were only 20' apart too.

Thanks for the info! A friend and I plan to try our hand at soon as we can get everything together which seems like never. By the way, where is caney creek. And regardless of where we were to try, would the catch be better during the day or night as by ScottEvil and KC.

As it gets hotter I think night time is best , but you can catch all day if you can bear the heat. Dusk to after midnite is usually my time of choice.

Don't let 'em get to ya, GG. They're just tryin' to jerk your chain a bit cause they're jealous about all the good fishin' you got in that creek of yours!

Keep fishin' you'll get that carp soon,
