Anybody ever been to Goose Island State Park? If so, can you tell me anything about the fishing or camping?

Its been so long since I've been there, over thirty years, that my info is just outdated.

I do recall very nice cabanas and facilities as well as good wade fishing. That is about it.

it has good camping areas and awesome access to fishing areas, St. Charles bay is right there and i have caught many redfish there on a scates shrimp, and you can wade the oyster reefs and catch lots of trout. i highly recommend it

Many thanks, gentlemen. The wife and I are going to South Padre in early August and were thinking about stopping at one extra fishing spot, on the way down. Thanks again.

My wife and I use to go there with our 5 wheel and had a good time. Great place to camp and fish. Charolette Plummers is a great place to eat.

Thanks SallySue,
We will definitely have to give it a try. What kind of food does Charolette Plummers, serve? Seafood I assume?

Plummers was awfull last time I was there. Maybe it was an off night for them.
Boiling Pot is consistant. was there last Saturday. (Get the Boudin appatizer.) Crabs were scrawny but the rest was spot on.

Heard a rumor by a trusted source that the little place on the road into Goose Island ("Popa's"?) does a great burger. Didn't get a chance to check it out for myself though.

Fished St. Charles around the Big Tree launch area for about 3 hours wednesday. Never saw a fish. Water was stirred up from all the wind. Might be better out towards the reefs with live bait.

Don't forget about alice fayes. They got some pretty good food themselves. I think it gives you more of a surf and turf option.

Also, I haven't been fishing a Goose Island, but I've have been there several times to meet guides and stuff and the area looks good.

It's been several years since I've been there, but is a very sweet spot. And an excellent State Park to stay at. Last time I was there. I was outfished by a guy there fly-fishing for specks night fishing on there lighted pier.
(((Of coarse, I didn't have any live piggy perch to fish with that night))). juggle

Will be going there this weekend, for some night fishing on the pier. And will post report when I get back. Probally, will take a week or more for the water to clear up for trout fishing at night. But only way to find out is to go there and try it. And hoping, to at least catch some nice sandies and/or whitings. Also, with the Packery Channel now open, Mustang Island State Park would be a good campground also. But never been there before myself...And not sure the condition of it, after the storm...

Spent the week at Goose Island last week of July great week and enjoyed the camping and fishing. Fished the pier had good luck at night with trout, went across to the bay caught some flounder and a few redfish.

Camping at Goose island is nice restrooms are clean and new on the bay side. Camping in the woods have bad mesquitos and huge Racoons smile

Good food at the boiling pot, POPS at the intrance of the park has cold beer and good burgers.

Hope you enjoy your stay.

Tex
