I have been a member of this board for a long time and for the last few years have been without a kayak. Since that time I have been fishing a new tournament series for boat owners called Big Bass Fun. The tournaments are one bass only, largest bass takes the prize. It's a lot of fun.

Now that I am buying a new kayak again, I have been asked by the BBF organizers to organize a BBF tournament trail for people fishing from small boats. The idea is to limit the tournament to kayakers, float tubers, bass busters, and jon boats (14ft and under and with no more than 5hp engine).

As I envision this, it would be primarily an east Texas tournament trail, with anything east of I-35 being fair game. The first lake I am considering is Lake Holbrook up near Lake Fork. There are a lot of medium sized lakes (smaller than 1,000 acres) in east Texas and it should make for an interesting series. I would presume this would be primarily a spring, summer, fall series. We could even do Fairfield for Reds at somoe point! Or, even switch over to bream or catfish one month. It should be a lot of fun!!!

Anyway, entry would be $21, with $20 going to the overall "pot" for the winner. So, if there were 30 fishermen intered, the pot would be $600! Not bad for a half day on the lake! The other $1 goes towards prizes for the 2nd-4th or 5th places. These will mostly be lures, t-shirts, etc. I will also seek donations for prizes.

The format is in the works, but it'll probably work off of the CPR (catch, photo, release) format.

Right now, I am mostly trying to gauge interest in this tournament trail. There is no signing up, just show up on the proper day, at the proper ramp, and have fun! So, how many people would be interested?

This is great! Todd, I am really glad you decided to try and keep the BBFT small craft idea going, and East Texas is where I do most of my fishing, so of course I really will do my best to fish some of these out of the buster. Good luck, and thanks for keeping it going!
