Went out for a while Sunday, water was rough as hell. Still a bit to windy out there for me and mine. Trolled around one ship that was anchored but no bites.
You weren't deep enough for kingfish. I went out Sat, Sun, and Mon. You picked the best day (Sunday). There isn't any bait in the water until you hit around 100 feet of water. (about 16 miles out). The anchored ships are only about 3 miles offshore. That's to shallow right now.
Kingfish aren't thick but are scattered just like the bait. You can pick up a limit if you really want em. You just have to keep lines in the water for hours. I ran across some schools of Jacks (25-32lbs) numerous times. All five lines popped at once with two guys on board. That becomes interesting in 6'+ seas. Seas got bigger the deeper water you fished. Southern (40 miles out) still green water. Not even a pretty green. Get you deflater and hookouts on board. I got stopped twice inside the jetties. If you have any bottom fish on board, and don't have the two items mentioned above, pull out your wallet. With snapper season starting, they will fine you on the spot. Also make sure you have your tuna permit. They are getting sticky about those also.
