Great looking bass that you landed there. Just think, if you had one of those new Sage specialty bass rods you would have caught.....the same fish! I'm still a sucker for functional, affordable gear that gets you on the water and catching fish.

I fished for a few hours during the day yesterday, but the wind was brutal. When my hopper was doing more surfing than fishing, I called it a day.

That fish don't know he wasn't caught on a $600 rod. I've been having pretty good luck with my el-cheapos lately as well.
Nice fish. Congrats. By the way, where is Lone Star Lake?

Lone Star Lake is a great little lake that isn't fished nearly as much as it could be. It has a great variety of sunfish, as well as largemouth.

Yeah I think the lake has nice sized fish because of PCB's. Here is a link to the TPWD which says no species should be eaten from that lake unless I read it wrong. I have fished there a couple of times a few years back. (last time I was there the mosquitos almost carried me away...lol...they were in the boat, and even came home with us when we put the boat in the garage, you could hear them hum from outside the door. But yes, to just fish for the sport of it there, I imagine you would have a BLAST. I bet there are some MONSTERS in there. I wonder when it will be okay to eat from that lake again. Lake Daingerfield has food consumption warning on I believe on LMB. (mercury?) I think it said it was safe to eat only a small portion within a certain time frame. What a shame our lakes are polluted. I saw a tv show where I think it was a lake in Michigan that was very polluted, and they finally got it cleaned up, and now have a great fishery there. So it can be done, and I hope it is taken care of for our kid's sake.

What I meant was people might not be fishing as much there...not that the PCBs are making the fish big....lol.

Lone Star Lake gets plenty of fishing pressure, all the NorthEast Texas bass clubs fish it, some fish it 2-3 times a year, years ago it was a quieter lake...yeah shame about PCB's, its an excellent crappie & catfish lake too...probably never be able to eat those fish thanks to Lone Star Steel dumping 50 years worth of [censored] into it.

Yes, no doubt as to whom the problem derived from. How sad. I hear of some lakes getting cleaned up over time. I don't know how in the world you can get rid of PCB's though. I would fish the place, but never eat fish from it until I felt quite sure it was safe to. It won't be anytime soon, that is for sure. At least the area doesn't have the smoke and stink like it used to. When I was a kid in the 60's before pollution was a big deal, that place was awful. I guess if you live there, you get used to it. But I had to go through there a few times a year cause it was on my way to my grandma's house. It is a quiet little area now. No massive smoke billowing up like it used to have. I am afraid they are gonna lay off more workers there though. They have been doing that surprisingly from what I have heard. You would think with our military busy overseas that the local factory there would be in high gear. I guess foreign steel is winning out again. For our national security though I hope they can keep our guys at work...can that not be done, making steel in a way that does not impact the environment I wonder?

I don't mind seeing pics from any lake. I love your posts, and your pics. In fact since you are in my relative area, we should get together and fish one day when the weather gets cool this fall. I might even go to the Lone Star Lake just to show you I am not that afraid of it........ROTFL. Seriously, we can fish at any lake around here. I will even let you pick. That is if you don't mind me being a newbie and all.

I'm in E. Texas this weekend, from Friday and leaving monday evening. Its been mostly to partly cloudy, and a bit windy, and stinkin' hot! wink

Fri. AM I fished in the lake where my inlaws live, Greenbriar Lake. Its was pretty decent. Caught 3 bass, a 3#, and 2 1# on a chartreuse popper. Then caught a 2# on one of Brimbum's epoxyhead streamer, a chartruese/black one.

Fri evening was slow, just caught a few bream . Sat. AM slow again.

Sat. evening went to Lake Gilmer. The bluegill and crappie were pretty cooperative along the riprap by the bridge. The bass were slow. Just caught one around 2# on a chartruese popper.

For some reason fishing in May aways seems slow around here. Late March and April by far seems the most productive for bass.

yeah.. maybe its the "post-spawn" thing for bass. Hey Kelkay, have you been doing good on Bream? Some pretty nice bream around this time of year.

Oh yeah, went tonight again, at a small little lake also part of the Holly Lake Ranch development here. Did pretty good. I also fished the spinning rod too, since I really wanted to fish an old topwater plug that I inherited from my wife's grandfather. Its an old topwater with a prop on the back, I think its called a cisco kid... Caught 2 bass on it, including a nice 3# bass.
Also fly fished some and caught a few nice bream and a few small bass.

Sinner hung I've been wearing out the crappie on the spinning rod so I also have to repent (we need to go).

I have done quite well with bream (sunfish). I don't catch the numbers I've heard some people speak of, but they have been usually easy to catch.

Glad to hear you're having fun out there Christian. I went to South Lake on Friday and caught about 15 bass. Saturday I went to Russell Creek Park and caught over 100 bream and a few small bass. Yesterday I went to Prosper and caught about 30 bream, including 2 - 10 1/2" redear, and four small bass under 1#.

I went back out to Russell Creek Park in Plano today and caught probably 50 more bream. They are on the beds all over the lake and you can get a hit on almost every cast. So if any of you parents want to take your kids out and let them have a ball catching fish, that park is a great place to go right now. It is on McDermott west of Independence. way in the back of the park.

While I was there today a great blue heron was standing about 30' from me. When I caught a bluegill I threw it in his direction and he quickly got it and gobbled it down. I gave him three more bluegill and one 8" bass before he got full. After I fed him I could have probably gone up to him and petted him, lol. I was his best friend today!
