Hey all,

I'm trying to take my girlfriend carp fishing so she can have a good time fishing with all the fighting carp... So my question is, where can I go nearby North Dallas (Addison,Carrolton,Farmers Branch,Plano,Wylie, you get the idea) to take her. Thanks in advance!

pretty much anywhere there is a city park with a canal or ponds as they all have carp in there.

just take some sweet corn and a 6 or 7ft light action rod and a #6 hook (not 6/0) and a 1/8oz sliding weight chum a handfull and put a few kernals on the hook and cast into the area where you chummed and wait.. be sure to loosen your drag so you wont loose your pole.

Take the Loomis rods; just take a rod holder, too.

toss out about 15' or so don't expect anything huge there but you will catch quite a few a small 4 or 6 size hook and a egg singer and a can of sweet corn should do the trick

The best way to increase your chances of catching a carp is to put chum in the water. Take a large can of sweetcorn, open it up, and toss a couple handfuls of corn into the water. Put a few kernels on your hook, and toss a few more kernels into the water (maybe a 20 or 30) every 15 minutes or so while you fish. After you catch a fish, toss some more corn in the water, too.

Bring a camera, a rod holder, and a net (long handle, with a soft mesh bag if possible).

After you cast, lighten the drag on the reel (you want the fish to be able to take some line, but not too quickly). You can adjust the drag during the fight if necessary.

Remember, you don't have to hold your rod all the time, just when there's a fish on it....

Didn't catch a carp...caught a small LMB with a black spinner bait...I was getting restless and went on with what I know. Maybe again this weekend...I chummed and did everything instructed. Even went to the exact point refrenced. Maybe someone can shine a little insight on me????

WTH,
So JvTjr (my son Weston) and I went fishing this evening at a pond in Carrollton. Weston has been trying to get the IGFA Junior World Record for Yellow Bullhead. First pond he caught one Bullhead over a pound, but it unfortunately was a Black. But he did pick up a spotted gar to go towards the txfishes contest.

The wind was beating us down at the first place, so we hit a different Carrollton pond. Note I had not seen this post before we left. We park and walk around to a spot out of the wind. A few minutes later a guy walks up and asks if I am a TFF member. Wow, I thought Small World. Then he told me about this forum post. I explained I was JVT. He knew who I was from the recent Black Buffalo Post. Anyway, we met 01lightning. Very nice guy. My son and I caught a few small bullheads and a carp each before we left. I baited a spot, told 01lightning and his girlfriend should move to that spot to fish, told him to take that big weight off his line too. thumb. Hopefully they caught or are catching some fish right now.

So uh thanks for posting a map of my pond to the whole world. hammer
Just kidding wink I used to ride my bike there to fish when I was a kid. As a teenager I used to 4 wheel my jeep there.
Had huge carp back then. Everything is small in that pond today. But it is a nice park to take a kid fishing.

John
