As I watch the shows on television, I see these hosts making trips to Mexico to go bass fishing. Is it all that it's made out to be? Is it really that good?

Have you gone? Where? Why?

Just checking as I'm rolling around the idea of maybe springing for a trip someplace and I thought I'd look into Mexico as well.

Went to Lake Huites,Trophy Bass Lodge, last October. We fished 3 days and averaged over 200 a day per boat. Most were in the 3-6# range. Topwaters early, then medium diving cranks, and t-rigged Zoom Magnum lizards in watermelon/red. Accomadations, food and staff were great.

We have fished El Salto and Lake Huites. Both several times. We are now going twice a year and it does not get any better. We are fishing Lake Baccarac in January. It is easier to get to El Salto but there are 100 X's more people fishing there. We have been to Huites 3 times now and love it. Much, much less presure and a beautiful lake.

Might be worth the extra cash to go that way. Also, you don't have to mess with changing planes in Mexico City.
Do you fly into El Fuerte going to Huites? I have never been to Bacarrac, but would like to go.

I have been to Guerrero several times and stayed at Lago Vista Lodge. Everytime we caught ton's of fish between 2 and 5 lbs and atleast 5 to 10 fish in the 8 to 10 lbs range. $850 for the trip 3 days fishing. We fly into McAllen TX and the lodge comes and picks us up and drives us to the lodge. I go every other year and I am planning a trip now for February 2009. The trip is all inclusive for meals and drinks and the guide is $20 a day but we generally tip well because we always catch a ton of fish.

I've been to El Salto several times and would highly recommend it. It's the cheapest to get to with daily non-stops from Houston via Continental. I've fished it throughout the year and never found it to be anything close to "crowded" as mentioned above. However, because of it's location farther south than Huites and Baccarac, it is very susceptible to Hurricanes. I once fished the lake 2 weeks after one and it really messed with the fishing. The lake was up 20 feet and though the fishing was still good, it was only OK by Mexican standards.

I've been to all the lodges on El Salto and found the service and hospitality to be excellent at them all.

Also will cut down on the checked luggage hassel. Last trip to Huites, lures and hooks were ok on American, but a no no on Mexicanna. Also had the problem of returning on Mexicanna. They would not check our bags throuh Mexico City and on to American.to Dallas. Had to claim them and make "the death march" fron Mexicanna bag claim to American check in. As I get older an extra $300 to avoid all that is a no brainer. I'm assuming you go to Lake Huites Lodge. Another neat thing about Huites,is you may see a 1/2 dozen other boats all day.
