This is one place I say having a Pit Bull is justified. Just put him under the cover and keep him mean and hungry. That's what these people deserve.

Sorry this happened to you Mike. Your a good man. It was tough seeing you today, because I can tell it took the wind of our your sail for wanting to keep fishing! Stay positive and fish on! coolio

PS. The way Blu-Ranger was walking today, it seemed like he had some crankbaits and hooks in his pocket. You may want to pay him a visit during the next neighborhood garage sale! j/k rolfmao

Ouch man, can't let your guard down even for a second. When I was keeping my boat outside I cleaned it out completely, they weren't getting anything. Now it's in my garage locked up tight thankfully, but I was always nervous when it was outside under the cover...

I don't know what it's like to be cheated and robbed like that, but I can imagine how mad you must be. Just remember, Karma is a BITCH! Those guys will get what they got coming to them.

Did you have insurance on your tackle?

Mike, I've had it happen too. What's worked for me since are 2 things.

1. Motion detector flood lights. 300 watts of auto turn on illumination.

2. My bed is at the far end of my house from my boat. You can go to Radio Shack or such and buy a relay kit to alert you when the light comes on.

I pity the next fool that sets my little DEFCON-1 alarm off by my bed. Since I've installed the lights, no more problems though. The theives don't know if it's motion or Mr. 12 ga. coming to see them I reckon.

Sorry fo your loss.

PS: You caught all the fish yet Blu-Ranger? wink

Is this something that can be covered on homeowners / boat insurance being parked in your driveway?

Hey, the new guy, Kansas Crankbait, has a boat snake he'll sell you cheap! Just kidding, its really bad, happened to me several years ago. Hoolllyyy Crude!! never realized how much money i had tied up in that stuff until i had too sit back and totalled it all!!!!!

Fingerprints will do no good, unless you or the cops have an idea who did it? gotta have a suspect to match the prints too.
Best bet for catching them or recovering your stuff is to canvas the pawn shops. Even then the chances are slim. Sorry, but the reality of theft is, its usually very difficult to find who did it, unless theres a witness or someone finds your stuff somewhere.

all anti theft devices work to some degree, audible alarm and motion lights might not stop a thief but it usually prohibits them from spending very much time. a boat cover is another deterant, keep it tied down tight, it will help! It might sound funny, but stare at everyone intensely that looks at your boat when your outside. Sometimes your looking at the thief and if he thinks youve identified him he wont come back! Seriously, ive talked to thieves who told me this after being caught. Two different burglars told me essentially the same thing, they thought about "hitting" certain houses, but the owners saw them and they didnt return. Its all about paranoia, most thieves are drug addicted which adds to the paranoia! Also, write down tag numbers (concrete identifying information)of anyone looking shady and showing interest in your boat!

In addition, write down all serial numebrs AND buy a small engraving tool if you dont have one and engrave your driver's license number on everything you can and if its too small engrave your initials. This helps the investigators and you positively identify your property, without numbers or identifying marks its very difficult to prove ownership!

I know this advise doesnt help a lot after the fact but maybe someone will get something out of it??? grin

I feel your pain. I tied the boat to the dock at Alan Henry a couple weeks back. (got there about 4:30 to beat the rush) Still dark, put the lights on, unloaded. Tied the boat to the dock. (there were three guys crappie fishing). Got back to the boat about 2 minutes later, and my Bow Light was GONE! I'm like WT....???? I walk over to the only three people on the dock, and they are already looking guilty as sin. I asked if they saw anything, and of course, "nothing;nothing" I could have gutted all three of those liars. We were the ONLY people there. I should have called the cops. (it was only 35 bucks, but man I was livid)

b if you need help restocking, i'll kick a discount your way. anyway i can help.

oh, and i know some fellows that keep a baby monitor, and a string of cowbells sewn under their cover as a really cheap 'alarm' that works.(especially if you want Mr. 12 guage to be the judge, jury, and ....well.

And those monitors are so sensitive, you can hear if someone is even breathing near your boat.

Sorry to hear about youre losses.I contract into a school that was hit last weekend. They stole 2 vans and better than 200,000 in tools and equipment. They busted at least ten other van windows out and used another one to smash the gate. Irving PD pulled over a truck with our exempt plates two days later. He was an illegal who had just gotten out of prison and had lot's of our equipment in the back of the truck. Irving PD was pursuing possesion of stolen property charges on him. He would not talk and was good with being in jail. Tarrant county DA would not pick this guy up, citing not enough evidence. [censored]........ So this guy is getting away with it after he was caught red handed.
I feel youre pain I just didnt want to go through it. So I made a decission to store mny boat at a self storage unit. Fully contained and locked by me with a password entry gate.
As far as keeping the boat outside this will just continue to happen. If you dont have a dog that can roam around the boat at all times it's stored.
I think you need to do everything everyone else suggested. But you may want to also add a video system. They are affordable and people in suburbs have them at nearly every door.
if you catch someone vigil anti justice is the only true way to rid us of these assssssholes.
I hope you were insured.
And again Im sorry for your losses.

Your local police department should check area pawn shops on a regular basis, running all serial numbers of pawned items. Keeping serial numbers handy and marking your equipment is the best way to get it back, if its pawned. Since you been hit twice, might be someone in your area. I been thinking about getting one of those game cameras, they run on batteries, and putting it near my boat and truck, maybe in a tree. if someone comes by, being motion detected, you should get a good photo of them. Might be suprised who it is. they wont cost alot, but could provide the best evidence. Just a thought

I use a gun lock on my trolling motor.the one with cable and padlock. I go thru the base around the shaft.they can't slip it thru you have to cut it.If they want it they will get it.
