just bought a 520 and they have a free map program. anyone here have it. Is it something you would want. Also what about hte software download, is it something you would want to install , or are you better off without it

Not sure what you mean. If you are talking about the enhanced maps, I have put a couple on my computer so I can transfer them to an SD card and use them in my unit.

If this unit is different than what you are used to having, I suggest that you download the Emulator and spend time in the house learning keystrokes and functions. I found it much better than trying it while bobbing around on the water.

Heck ya you want one!!! Get the South Hot Maps!! I purchased mine a month too early, or would have mine for free. As far as the software download, mine was current when I got it so I didn't have to download.

Absolutely order the map card it's free. You can also find many Texas lakes in the enhanced lake maps section at www.lowrance.com They are free and have more detail than the maps that were loaded on my unit. If your unit does not have the latest software version 2.3 you probably want it also. One of the features is the screen save option.
