Are Gas Prices Causing Fewer Tournament Entries? What trail do you fish that you see it in?

I'll answer that after tonite's registration up at Cabela's for this weekend's Federation Nation tournaments. The North Central Region runs from Oklahoma to Austin down I-35. We've already had our Travis/Buchanan weekend in January, and the Fort Worth boys travelled well down there, but gas was significantly cheaper then, though on the rise. The Austin boys that travel up here this weekend are gonna be spending some cash on the gas.

people are choosing the trails with the best paybacks i think, deeper payouts. i stick to basschamps and swing for the fence. i think that some have some serious credit card bills trying to keep up there dream. thats my opinion, at least my boat and tow vehicle are paid for, thank goodness.

I'd have to say so... I try to get to the big ones now, not so much the little ones.

Not with us at Ignition Bass - all divisions have seen an increase from 2007 to 2008 (27% year over year on Cedar Creek, Conroe has exploded and Tawakoni has jumped 64% [we actually have water in the lake]). I think having a fairly fixed set of costs going to the same lake every month has helped us (bigger checks, more bonus money and water in the lake also has been a big factor)

I am fishing the same amount of tourneys, just not prefishing near what I used to do. Now I just show up on tourney day and hope they are in the same place they were last year! I am learning alot more about Pool though, as that is close to home.

I dont think it is hurting the local stuff too bad but they hurt the bigger trails. Look at the recent Stren on Texoma.....131 pros. Just costs too much to travel long distances with a boat.

Just got back from town. Getting ready for Bass Champs tommorrow. 106.00 in the truck and I quit at 150.00 in the boat. Some thing IS going to give. I gotta quit tournament fishing.

You have to say yes, Look at the entries at the latest Stren Event on Texoma, they were calling for 175 entries and only had 130ish.

I am really hoping it hurts the wake boarders, but very doubtful, since it looks like most of the time they are driving on daddy's dime violin

I was going to fish the Wed. night tourney at the pool this last week, but stopped to put gas in the boat. I put $70 something in gas on one side, and decided I would not fish the tourney. And by the way, that $70 did not fill one tank cry

Also, I noticed that when them boys took off, there were only a hand full of boats that came flying out of the marina.

Most definitely kept me home more. I hate it but it is what it is and I will live. Most months its 2 trips to the lake and a couple trips to a local pond.

I know this will sound weird...but I hope so. There are too many tournaments, on too many lakes, with too many entries. Tournament fishing has become the trendy thing to do, and now seemingly everyone with a boat is a tournament fisherman.

There are at least 3-4 tournaments on every decent lake (and some not so decent lakes) every weekend.

Our lakes could use a little less pressure...IMO.

Definitely, escpecially as the season goes on and people think they are out of contention to get to the Championship.

i am forcing myself to fish more on Ray Hubbard, and only one tourney circuit. Yes- it has affected my tourny fishing. the circuit I fish has had terrible numbers on participants as well!
