Well i got hit for the second time this year, last night. this time the criminals took everything..101 minn kota maxxum pro, 332/x25c with 07 navionic chips, every last worm box, crank baits, buzzbaits, swimbaits, jerkbaits--luckily i take my rods out, but i may have left one or two in there..too pissed off at the moment to do inventory. i usually take my cranks and terminal tackle out, but been fishing almost daily for the last couple weeks...great timing.

At least one other boat got hit near me last night as well.

please please please if you see any of this equipment for sale at a pawn shop or ebay, let me know. I have serial numbers on all of this stuff. I can pick that trolling motor out of a lineup a mile long. i guess i wont be dash mounting my GPS units anymore.

If you know these people, kill first-ask questions later. I will take the fall for you!

Sorry to hear that Mike, I live in Bedford as well so that's a little too close to home. Was this at an apartment complex or residential home (if you don't mind me asking)?

bummer, sorry to hear about this. I used to work for First Cash Pawn about 10yrs ago. I know there is one located in Bedford. Try talking to the mgr of the store and see if he/she is willing to run the serial #'s for you. First Cash has all there computers linked up to all of there stores and if it has been dumped on one of the stored they will be able to see it.
If they refuse then if you know someone in law enforcement have them go into the store and ask for you.

After reading these reports on the forum, I try to unload everything on my boat every single time. Unfortunately the key word I used was "try". I have never had any issues in my neighborhood, but would hate to find out differently.

Hope you are able to recover your stuff.

may try to get a security system installed. they require that you have lighted rod lockers/compartments. when the light comes on from the compartment being opened, the alarm will sound. also if you are going to have to park in the driveway, get some motion lights. with all that said, i also realize that there are some thieves with big balls who wont let an alarm or a light scare them from breaking in. maximum coverage insurance is king.

Yes I lost everything way back in 1985. Ever since I remove everything except the anchor and paddle. Its so routine that it really only takes me 10 min tops. In fact, its so routine that I do it at the boat ramp after pulling out of the water, remove the electronics and tackle first, put in back of pickup bed that has a cover on it like a trunk lid that locks. Then all the tackle and rods, and life vest goes in next, that way no one will even be tempted to take something from the boat in the parking lot. So its all put away before leaving the lake. (I store my boat in a location away from the house so no one really knows to break into the truck because no boat is attached.)

Never had the trolling motor stolen though, sorry to hear about your loss. The only thing I cried about were the old lures that they stopped making and couldn't replace, the rest are just replaceable toys.

As for alarms, when I used to have one on my convertible, I used to actually leave the car unlocked with the alarm on, so that the thiefs would not rip or cut the soft top. They could just easily open the unlocked door, thereby setting of the alarm, run and nothing gets damaged or stolen. I hate it when thieves do damage trying to steal. Use the alarms and make it easy for them to go off.

You can bet that stuff is at the flea market in Grand Prairie or Canton.

I have an I-Class..it was enabled both times my boat was broken into. They knew how to disable it apparently cause i never heard it and my boat sits about 20 feet from my bed.

I feel your pain, but unfortunately it is only going to get worse with the economy. Alot of these theives are people who are just not making it anymore and need money to pay the bills the easy way. Also, if nothing was broken or damaged in the process, it was probably someone you know who did not want to do anymore damage than was necessary because they already feel guilty. It is sad that you feel like you need to move to get away from it

Time to install an alarm.

When I bought my next house, I did not care how big or small it was, but it had to have enought room to park my boat. it is a 3 car garge and one is tandem.

I am considering installing an alarm on my boat. It is very easy to do.

"Bait and shoot." Now thats a good one. I may be more about BAIT and BAT. That way you can press charges. Criminals suck. Sorry about your loss. Glad I can get mine in the garage for just that reason. Can't believe they got the trolling motor. How far do people have to go. If you strip your boat down clean after each trip you'll need to wake up three hours earlier just to rerig it before the next trip. Starts to take the fun out of it. Hope you will get some things back.

Mike, first off, sorry to hear about it. Did they hit James also? I didn't get home from the 'vine until about 2am last night before I parked my boat. They must have hit you before then. Sorry bastards. I put my electronics and stuff away before I went in. Guess I got lucky. Of course my boat looks like the owner is broke compared to your rig. Let me know if I can do anything.

No, they skipped mine. I was thinking the same thing Joe that maybe they went for the newer boat instead of our twins.

If you guys think an alarm system makes a difference, Mike's iClass is as "alarmed" as it gets. The a-holes just disabled it and went about their business.

Ouch man, can't let your guard down even for a second. When I was keeping my boat outside I cleaned it out completely, they weren't getting anything. Now it's in my garage locked up tight thankfully, but I was always nervous when it was outside under the cover...

I don't know what it's like to be cheated and robbed like that, but I can imagine how mad you must be. Just remember, Karma is a BITCH! Those guys will get what they got coming to them.

Did you have insurance on your tackle?

Mike, I've had it happen too. What's worked for me since are 2 things.

1. Motion detector flood lights. 300 watts of auto turn on illumination.

2. My bed is at the far end of my house from my boat. You can go to Radio Shack or such and buy a relay kit to alert you when the light comes on.

I pity the next fool that sets my little DEFCON-1 alarm off by my bed. Since I've installed the lights, no more problems though. The theives don't know if it's motion or Mr. 12 ga. coming to see them I reckon.

Sorry fo your loss.

PS: You caught all the fish yet Blu-Ranger? wink

Hey, the new guy, Kansas Crankbait, has a boat snake he'll sell you cheap! Just kidding, its really bad, happened to me several years ago. Hoolllyyy Crude!! never realized how much money i had tied up in that stuff until i had too sit back and totalled it all!!!!!

Fingerprints will do no good, unless you or the cops have an idea who did it? gotta have a suspect to match the prints too.
Best bet for catching them or recovering your stuff is to canvas the pawn shops. Even then the chances are slim. Sorry, but the reality of theft is, its usually very difficult to find who did it, unless theres a witness or someone finds your stuff somewhere.

all anti theft devices work to some degree, audible alarm and motion lights might not stop a thief but it usually prohibits them from spending very much time. a boat cover is another deterant, keep it tied down tight, it will help! It might sound funny, but stare at everyone intensely that looks at your boat when your outside. Sometimes your looking at the thief and if he thinks youve identified him he wont come back! Seriously, ive talked to thieves who told me this after being caught. Two different burglars told me essentially the same thing, they thought about "hitting" certain houses, but the owners saw them and they didnt return. Its all about paranoia, most thieves are drug addicted which adds to the paranoia! Also, write down tag numbers (concrete identifying information)of anyone looking shady and showing interest in your boat!

In addition, write down all serial numebrs AND buy a small engraving tool if you dont have one and engrave your driver's license number on everything you can and if its too small engrave your initials. This helps the investigators and you positively identify your property, without numbers or identifying marks its very difficult to prove ownership!

I know this advise doesnt help a lot after the fact but maybe someone will get something out of it??? grin

I feel your pain. I tied the boat to the dock at Alan Henry a couple weeks back. (got there about 4:30 to beat the rush) Still dark, put the lights on, unloaded. Tied the boat to the dock. (there were three guys crappie fishing). Got back to the boat about 2 minutes later, and my Bow Light was GONE! I'm like WT....???? I walk over to the only three people on the dock, and they are already looking guilty as sin. I asked if they saw anything, and of course, "nothing;nothing" I could have gutted all three of those liars. We were the ONLY people there. I should have called the cops. (it was only 35 bucks, but man I was livid)

b if you need help restocking, i'll kick a discount your way. anyway i can help.

oh, and i know some fellows that keep a baby monitor, and a string of cowbells sewn under their cover as a really cheap 'alarm' that works.(especially if you want Mr. 12 guage to be the judge, jury, and ....well.

And those monitors are so sensitive, you can hear if someone is even breathing near your boat.

Sorry to hear about youre losses.I contract into a school that was hit last weekend. They stole 2 vans and better than 200,000 in tools and equipment. They busted at least ten other van windows out and used another one to smash the gate. Irving PD pulled over a truck with our exempt plates two days later. He was an illegal who had just gotten out of prison and had lot's of our equipment in the back of the truck. Irving PD was pursuing possesion of stolen property charges on him. He would not talk and was good with being in jail. Tarrant county DA would not pick this guy up, citing not enough evidence. [censored]........ So this guy is getting away with it after he was caught red handed.
I feel youre pain I just didnt want to go through it. So I made a decission to store mny boat at a self storage unit. Fully contained and locked by me with a password entry gate.
As far as keeping the boat outside this will just continue to happen. If you dont have a dog that can roam around the boat at all times it's stored.
I think you need to do everything everyone else suggested. But you may want to also add a video system. They are affordable and people in suburbs have them at nearly every door.
if you catch someone vigil anti justice is the only true way to rid us of these assssssholes.
I hope you were insured.

Your local police department should check area pawn shops on a regular basis, running all serial numbers of pawned items. Keeping serial numbers handy and marking your equipment is the best way to get it back, if its pawned. Since you been hit twice, might be someone in your area. I been thinking about getting one of those game cameras, they run on batteries, and putting it near my boat and truck, maybe in a tree. if someone comes by, being motion detected, you should get a good photo of them. Might be suprised who it is. they wont cost alot, but could provide the best evidence. Just a thought

I use a gun lock on my trolling motor.the one with cable and padlock. I go thru the base around the shaft.they can't slip it thru you have to cut it.If they want it they will get it.
