My Googling turned up that they start "gearing up" when the water gets to 70º and then it peaks around 75º.

"For some unknown reason bluegill spawning peaks around a full moon" (read the full article)

once the water gets warm enough & the days get long enough, the bass will be getting done with their spawn & the sunfish will be moving into those same areas to start theirs. ie; NOW

The HUGE fat bull bluegills are busy bees in the bedding areas right now. The females are here and there, but by midweek will be in full effect!

They actually spawn multiple times over the spring and summer months...beginning in March in my area or as Robin says as water temps hit about 70 degrees and peaking around the full moon in May. I have seen spawning as late as September. Great source of forage for our fresh water predators.

Today I finally had a good bite on the lake, not just the ponds. One thing I like about the lake is that I'll catch all sorts of sunfish from a 4 inch green sunfish to a very pretty longear to a bluegill that was almost perfectly white, not just the same bluegill that looks like a twin from the last.

Today I was fishing an earthworm weightless on light braid. One thing I noticed is that even with a lot of slack in the line you will feel the bite telegraphed through the line. The lake sunfish seem to be a lot better bait stealers that the pond ones. I had to work on getting a good hookset as I lost more bait than I caught fish.

Generally,
Sand bass & LMB spawn just before & on the Full Moon in Feb.
Sand bass & LMB spawn just before & on the Full Moon in March.
Crappie, catfish, & LMB spawn before & on the Full Moon in April.
On Lake Fork, the LMB spawn first on the upper end
(Feb), Middle of the lake (March), and in the south coves
near the dam near the full moon (April).
Large - Med sunfish spawn just before & on the Full Moon in May.
Med-Smaller sunfish spawn on June & July Full Moons.

The shallows of our lakes provide the spawning habitat for
each type of fish usually only after other species have
finished their spawn. The sunfish try to eat the LMB fry,
hence anglers use red rattle traps, and then later the LMB
eat the sunfish fry.
