I'm sure this has been a topic of discussion before but I'm too tired to search for it today. I am in the market for an onboard battery charger and I was thinking that I needed 3 banks because I have 3 batteries (1 starting & 2 for the 24V trolling motor). Then I was thinking that the big motor charges the starting battery so wasn't sure if I needed a bank for this one. Well, then if my boat sits for a month or so I'm going to want to charge that battery as well so I think I just answered my own question. Yeah, it's been a long day, week. Anyways, does anyone know anything about the Basspro XPS brand? They are going on sale next week. Also, I have a Promaster Bay boat & 2 trolling motor batteries in the compartment on the bow & just 1 in the rear, would you mount it in one of the compartments on the bow? This way I would only have to run one set of leads to the rear of the boat. Any advice would be appreciated. Thx.

I would steer clear of the XPS brand. I had one that only lasted 1.5 years before it quit. It also boiled the batteries try every couple months. I had a Guest that was good and a ProMariner that was okay. The boat I have now has a Dual Pro and its is great. It totally shuts off when the batteries are charged. The other trickle charge after the batteries reach full charge.

Thanks BD. After your reply I went on to Basspro website & read the reviews. Wow, lots of bad reviews on the XPS but good customer service & no hassle replacements (2 year warranty). Anybody else have anything to say about the XPS or other onboard battery chargers out there. I guess with anything you get what you pay for. Another good point I read on another thread is if it is mounted in the front of your boat it takes much more of a beating then in the rear. I will likely mount mine in the front due to available space & 2 batts up front so want to make sure I am getting a quality charger & good warranty. Thanks for any info you can offer.

I had a XPS and had problems with it over charging. I now have a Duel Pro and love it no problems.

John, my Promaster came from the factory with a dual bank on the port side rear for the big motor but no way to charge the tm batteries. I tried everything humanly possible to get the wires to the front, no luck. You might consider 2 chargers, just a small Vector trickle for the big motor and then your nice dual bank for the tm batteries in the front.Just my .02.

Hey Troy. My Promaster has wires already run from the front of the boat to the rear from where someone already had a onboard charger, I think. If so, I guess I'm lucky. I will have to get the meter out to check it. I don't know about your Promaster but in mine when you pull back on the throttle to stop quite a bit of water comes over the back by the motor so I was a bit hesitant about keeping a charger back there, not to mention there isn't a lot of room for one. Just seems to make more sense to keep it up front in one of the nice big storage compartments. I am trying to decide which brand to purchase & always get sucked into reading all the reviews & end up confusing myself more than I previously was. I appreciate the replies.
