Wal Mart didn't put any "Mom and Pop" stores out of business: the local population who quit shopping and buying at the "Mom and Pop" stores and started buying everything at the Wal Marts put them out of business. The proliferation of the large Sporting good stores (Bass Pro, Cabela's, Gander Mountain, Academy, Etc.) and internet buying is putting the small tackle shops out of business. It's also why Wal Mart is downsizing or eliminating their fishing departments.

I think it's because their employee's have the IQ of a pop tart. Twice, I have gone to Wal Mart to get my fishing license. Twice, the attendant couldn't spell the information correctly, reading it off my drivers license. Along with, Wal Mart sells cheap, crappy tackle. I would agree online shopping makes everything easier, but never going to shop at Bass Pro or Cabela's...too expensive. I wish there was a mom and pop shop around here.

No Mom and Pop store could make it with lower prices than Bass Pro, or Cabelas. If they are too expensive, then you will have to lower your standards, or wait longer to buy what you want. It is only going to get more expensive in the near future.

Why on earth would you shop in Walmart for fishing tackle? Their associates that work in the stores don't know the differece between the paint department and the fishing department. Why not shop at Cabela's, Fishing Tackle Unlimited or Sportsman's Warehouse? They know what they're doing. They're not into selling paint and electric fans. They're in the outdoors business.

You want to help the U.S. buy only U.S. products from WM let see how long they are in business that is what I am saying. Make them sell U.S. products. Check the label see where it came from.

I'm pretty sure the reason most people shop at Walmart is for the convenience of all the items being in one store and also for the reasonable prices one can expect from a store that size. Consequently, the prices are only as low as the sellers are willing to charge Wal-Mart. How many people will still shop at Wal-Mart for items that are costing them now %50 more for the same quality? That's what buying U.S. only gets you, higher price points for the consumer.

I went to the local Wal-Mart today. They do have a lot of rods on sale, but no tackle to speak of is on sale.

Wal mart is not to blame for mom and pops stores closing, Wally world has been good to my family. I guess the store has more effects to the po-dunk towns that are struggling to keep up with the times. I've been raised in the city my whole life and when people keep saying "buy American", it amuses me because WE as Americans are at fault not Wal-Mart, they provide us with great prices and are ridiculed for what? Our laziness as Americans is what sickens me. Wake up folks, let the fishing dept go, if the bargains at wally world bother you then YOU are the minority.

First, other than crappie hooks or maybe some split shot I cannot remember the last tackle purchase I made a WalMart.

I too am amused at those who proclaim that WalMart is the cause of the demise of small town America. Even IF WM is partially responsible I would submit that WalMart does WAY more good for the communities where they are located than harm.

My Wallyworld has Gamakatsu hooks. flukes are another goodd item I've gotten there this year. Now, if I had a Bass Pro closer than 2 hours away or a Cabelas closer than 5 hours I might go there some. I do have a Gander Mountain and an Academy within 40 minutes. So I buy some here some there. Some is mailorder. Just depends on what I need and where I am.

I definitely don't stock up on tacled fron WalMart. I do occassionally buy some tackle there.

My 2 biggest suppliers are BPS and then Ann's Tackle in Jasper. Also Bass Strike in Zavalla and Tri Lakes in Lufkin. Over half my stuff comes from "mom and pop" shops!

I am amused too. I wonder how many get their $4 prescriptions and now $10 for 90 day supply from WM? It made Tom Thumb match, and they're no mom and pop.

Hit a super HEB down in Corpus last weekend and the fishing section was a lot better equipped than the super Walmarts I visited in Round Rock, Pflugerville and Taylor.

The amazing thing is that if you are on here you have the internet so why would you drive 2 hours or even 1 hour to buy something--especially with gas at $3.50 a gallon. The online stores always seem to be stocked \:\)

Yeah I would imagine that a bunch of people who complain about WM one minute are looking for a parking spot the next so they can take advantage of the evil company for things like cheap medicine.

Some of you say buy American,,,,, That can be a challenge and I don't care where you are shopping... Look at where things are made, FORD, Chevy, Dodge, it don't matter, there is probably more items in a Honda or a Toyota made in the USA than are in Ford. Don't believe me look at the parts you buy and where they came from.... Manufacturing in the US is becoming a thing of the past...

Maybe notTTTTTTTTTT, the dollar is getting cheaper so foreign products will start costing much more, maybe now is a good time for US manufacturers to gear up as they will become more competitive.

It is also time for congress to tell the EPA to shut up and start approving refineries and drilling site so our US oil companies can expand....

Until all that happens it is only going to get worst...

My Mitsubishi pickup is made by Chrysler Corp. In fact it is Dodge Dakota chassis and engine, with a Mitsubishi body on it.

I had a Chevy Nova in 87. It had all kinds of foreign parts under the hood. I am sure it is no better now with American made cars...now with the Toyota being made here by American workers...that gets my attention. I hear Ford is laying off folks. I also saw what those people made per hour, it would make your head spin around here. Still if I can buy American, I will. Believe me, I look! It is getting harder and harder to find stuff made in the US, with US parts!

How many of the guys yelling "buy American, buy American!" can look in their tackle boxes and still say that.

I'm not saying that we shouldn't try and buy from home, but before you denounce those who buy what they need/want for the price they want to pay regardless of where it came from, you should look in the mirror first.

It is funny that when you consider the "Premium Baits" that a lot of the guys feel the need to have in the tackle box come from overseas, as do the rods, reels and other must haves.

Wal-Mart fishing departments here in Texas will disappear like K-Marts and Sports Authority (Oshmans) did. Wal-Mart continues to make more room for seasonal [censored] and food products with "foreign" labels. Wal-Mart is getting more and more useless to me everyday.
