I have actually caught one of those before. Mine was only 2 footers but my grandad and his friends were catching 11 footers before I arrived to meet them in Portland. They said it would take 4 people taking turns to bring em in. We went out the next morning when I got there and we broke anchor first thing that morning and could never stop drifting down the river-reason for me not getting a big one frown

That thing was huge, but am I the only one who believes 800lbs may be a bit high on the weight?

Maybe just me.

Well, seeing as how they get even bigger, and looking at the dimensions of that one ... I'd believe 800 for it, or pretty dadgum close.

WOW, that would be awesome to do battle with a fish like that. Especially in freshwater.

I'm sure it's just a guess. They were guessing the weight of the 200 lber. But still, seeing that thing come up to the side of the boat would make me gasp.

you can look here for a good estimate....the guy said it was 10 feet long

what impresses me is that it was probably well over 40 years old

According what I just found, this is the world record. Here is a link to a website that says a sturgeon caught in BC Canada is the world record at 360kg which is almost 800lbs. Prior to that, the record belonged to a guy in california that caught a 500lb in the friso bay in the 70's. I saw something about the cali guy on a nationl geographic show a while back. I remember that I thought it was funny the guy called in sick to work to go fishing and then had to end up calling people from his work to help him land it. They never said if he was fired for skipping work. I guess the show was older than this new record.
