Just one question:

With all the great Mexican restaurants in the San Antonio area, Why is there a Tcao Bell on every other corner?

If you are ever down in the rio grande valley fishing either port mansfield or southpadre, it worth the 30 minute drive to harlingen to eat at Pepes. As soon as you sit down they have chips and homemade salsa on the table, and once you get your drink you can only drink half before they refill it. The fajitas are the BEST non homecooked food ive ever had.

They had a few Monterrey House's in the DFW area. We ate there often. Not a bad place from what I remember.

In Houston try El Tiempo on Washington just West of TC Jester. Defintely as good as I have had anywhere. Don't expect it to be cheap however. I may cause you to edit your post for the best ever.

I need to put in a second mention for Peralta's near Lake Fork in Quitman. I've been stopping in there every chance I get lately.

I am a taco and enchilada man, travel all over East Texas on my job and I have to say, theirs are the best I have found. Specifically, the taco meat is fresh and juicy, never old and tired like a lot of the fancy mexican restaurants where everybody orders fajitas, and the lettuce and tomatoes on them are abundant and fresh. Also, the chicken enchiladas come stuffed with fresh white meat, unlike the kind of dark meat paste you get at a lot of restaurants. The chips are also super fresh as well as the salsa.

I think the word is out because I passed by there last Friday on the way home from work, and the place was just packed, with several of the Toyota Texas Bass Tournament Team trucks/boats parked all over the grass areas.

Hmm...thanks for the tip on Perlata's. I'm in Winnsboro on business every couple weeks, so I'll have to check it out.

I agree, and I'm not a big fajitas guy, but you can't beat Lupe's.

Nascarchuck, now that you know where Fernandez Cafe is you must have seen Melis Taqueria down the street. Stop by Melis at lunch some time and get yourself a Torta. I like the Pastor (pork) the best, but they are all good. Best tortas in the messoplex, no kidding. If you've never had a torta you are in for a real treat.

Melis is at the end of the parking lot from Fernandez Cafe?

Is a tora the one thats kind of like a mexican sandwitch or is that the one with meat and cheese in a "pocket"?

Will give it a try! thumb

A Mexican lady at work made a couple of us some tortas. They were ok, but I would rather have had something else...

But, I will give em a shot at Melis only because you recommended them... thumb

They are outstanding. Melis is a hole in the wall so you don't get the pretty blue plate and garnishes of course. You can get Mexican bottled Coke there too, which is the original sugar recipe. I'm as USA patriotic or more so than the next guy but when it comes to messcan food I defer to my betters.

You guy's remember me Tameraria's at Lake Fork? Well since we are no longer in business I will have to agree with you guy's about Perlata's it's one of the best around here. I haven't heard anything good about Three Amigo's at Lake Fork as of yet. Sure hope them girls do well.... But I will still go to Perlata's in Quitman or Winnsboro for my mexican food.
Talk to you guy's later.
