Spent the weekend in Iowa and look what I found. I picked the perfect weekend and hit the mother-lode of mushrooms. We found four patches that yielded over 50 plus mushrooms. The mushroom tally for the weekend was 100 plus pounds. Locally mushrooms go for $15/lb and $50+ on the Internet. We eat all we can and give away the rest.

Fry. Dip in egg and flour, cracker crumbs or both.

On the contrary sir, I have a friend whose dad is from Indiana and about 3 years ago his dad went back home to go shroom huntin. After hearing what they had to do to get the mushrooms, much of which was illegal and sounded like stuff people from east Texas do, I had to try them. WOW!! I felt privileged to share in his shroom huntin success. They are DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEElicious!! He floured them and them fried them in butter. It was like dinner and dessert all in one.

I will give up the opportunity to pick wild mushrooms and gladly live in Texas.

I can buy mushrooms. You can't buy being a Texan. };o)

I'll post prep tomorrow night. As for the taste, they are very unique. Some compare the taste and texture to that of a meat.

These are not psilocybin shrooms.

Here's how I prepare the mushrooms. Cut in half and soak in salt water to remove the dirt and bugs. Dip in egg, roll in flour/crackers and fry in butter or oil.

Now that's the cats meow right there!

I am in the mushroom farming business. The Morel is the most sought after mushroom available. I have never picked a Morel or know what best measures to find them in, but you cannot commercially grow a Morel. They just come up naturally in the woods. Avg wholesale mkt price is about $20/lb and can get as high as $40/lb when supplies are limited. Your best bet in locating some around the metroplex area would be either to check w/ Central Markets, Market Streets, or maybe Whole Foods. You might could buy some fresh online also. These are only available in the spring, so if you are lucky enough to find a gold mine like Pat Martin did, enjoy 'em......there isn't a better tasting mushroom out there!

Good mushroom huntin.......Okie

They do grow in Texas, you just have to know where to look. BTW, the season down here is way over, gonna have to wait until next year.
