i dont think there is any particular fly that works on Fork, the same thing you would throw on any lake for bass should be good, as always its finding the fish that is hardest, with the spawn almost over bass will be heading to deeper water during the heat of the day, that said I would try a popping bug or bass streamer late in the day

I concur that big poppers, streamers, hair bugs are some standards.

Those are the ones I'd take on any bass trip I were setting out on. There are some folks on here who fish Fork regularly who will weigh in after a bit I am sure.

I have only been to Fork about two to three times. I mainly went to the bridge area to fish. I also fished from a marina there, and did not do well. I caught a turtle and that is about it. Since I am without a boat, can anyone tell me a good area to fish off the bank? I have been wanting to take my son there. I have got to get him on a big bass, so he will want to go fishing with me more often. :-) He only does conventional though. He is gonna to do the bubble and fly routine though...he saw me catch some nice fish doing that when nothing else was biting.

Chartreuse and frog-colored #1 Peck's Poppers are the best flies early in the morning - I've caught bass up to 9# on those poppers at Fork. After that Pistol Petes, zonker-type flies (rabbit strips), and clousers.

i fish the fly on fork almost every weekend - and it can be frustrating- top waters early and late are best. clousers and leeches work too. i've caught many fish on a crippled shad imitation i tie and i'm catching some on a bream imitation i'm developing.

there are no state parks there is a SRA park just north of the 154 bridge it has a picnic area and a dock.

good luck!

Thanks guys. What is a SRA park? I went on somebody's dock..private...nobody around and got griped out once. I did not see a private sign and nobody was around. (no house right there or anything) Then this man drove up and threw a little fit. So I am a little cautious on just going on a pier. But ya know...some people need to get a grip. I believe that pier was near a bridge. Not a soul in sight till he drove up. Wish I could remember now exactly where it was. When I drive back that will I'm sure it will come to me. That was about 3 years ago, maybe two.

SRA is Sabine River Authority - they operate and control lake fork. I havn't been in the park but have driven by it many times. I actually caught a nice bass on a fly there last year while fishing with Rob Woodruff of course we were in a boat. I often see people picknicking there.

There are several boat ramps around the lake that offer some lake access but i would be careful about walking on any dock as they are all private.

you might want to try lake Hawkins - it offers a large public area right at the dam with lots of access to the lake and a swimming beach.

Also the new state park at lake tawakoni might be worth a try.

Thanks. I have been to Lake Hawkins. Much of the lake though is really for boaters. Private docs and houses abound. To get to the swimming area, you have to pay. I have fished over there by the bridge...but it is not easy to fish there with a fly rod.
I have not been to Lake Tawakoni in years. I did not know they had a state park there. I went to I think a private owned park, Windy Point or Breezy Point....can't remember. That was a long time ago. I do not know what it looks like now. The part we were in did not look like easy access for bank fisherman.
