Fished with Ronnie Seargeant and his dad today. Started about 7am on a point on the Southwest end. Fish were doing a little schooling in some really shallow water (5-10') when we pulled in. It was a mix of sandies and small hybrid. We caught 2 limits of keeper sandies between 7 and 9am this morning as the wind picked up. The wind got the lake to small whitecaps about 9am and we moved out to about 30' and drifted the point with sassy shad. We picked up some nice sandies and 9 hybrid that were just under 18". Tried a few other baits to catch some bigger fish, but the wind just pushed us away too fast. About 9am we ran across the lake and hit a few spots on the East side to get a break from the wind. We caught some more nice sand bass around Terry Park and IH, but they were scattered out and the action was not that fast. About 10am I was looking for a spot out of the wind, but decided to head out to some deep water in the middle where I have foundsome better fish in the afternoon. Marked some fish and put a bouy out. We caught probably over a hundred keeper sandies and 4 legal hybrid from 10 till noon there. The waves kept pushing us off the marker, but every time we were within 20 yards of it we caught fish on every drop. There are so many sandies right now to catch, I am trying not to keep the hybrid. Haven't caught any big ones lately. Most are under, but we caught a few just over 18" today. We caught them all on a chartreuse 1oz RJR Beast slab today. Some of the better hybrid are starting to come back down to the South end now. Another week or two and I think we will start to really get on them.

Matt, thanks for the report. I hope the fish are still in a biting mood this weekend.

how are you working your slabs. I went out Sunday and did not have much luck. I would mark fish, but had no luck catching. I caught several Large sandies on DD-22's while trolling, but could not get them to hit anything else I threw at them after being marked.

Harvey, not doing anything special really. I always try to keep my slab in the strike zone mainly.

If the fish are on the very bottom of the screen, you need to keep your slab on the bottom and just inch it off the bottom and let it down. Those fish are not gonna want a big hop, they are probably not actively feeding and won't be as willing to chase a bait.

If the fish are suspended of on top, they are probably feeding. Sometimes you can just chunk and wind. Sometimes I count my slab down to their depth and jig it while it is in the right depth. Another way to catch suspended fish is to drop the bait to the bottom and rip it (reel fast) all the way to the top. If you don't get hit, jush punch the button and let it back down.

BTW - yesterday was not so smokin hot out there! We ended up with about 20 keepers. The morning bite was on, but the wind kept us off the deep water stuff I've been fishing. Tried a bunch of regular spots out of the wind but got nada! Hope its the calm before the storm!
