Have a club tournament there at the end of the month and have never been there. Looking for some advice on the best place to stay for a weekend tournament.

My opinion is Holiday Inn exp in Salado. It's right off I-35 and about 8 to 10 min. from Rivers Bend boat ramp. I would do the tourny out of Rivers Bend also because it's pretty much the center of the lake.
Good Luck!

Thanks Bomber 89 I will pass the word on to the club.
By the way, GPS coordinates on where that 10.3lber came from would be appreciated and any other info for someone who has never seen the lake.

Make sure your club has a permit if you are going to hold a weigh in in the park. They are really cracking down on the number of tournaments out there. I think they only allow three per weekend or something like that. You must contact the corp of eng. office to obtain a permit. Our club wasn't able to get one last weekend and we had to hold our weigh in ourtside the park, then drive our fish back down to the lake to be released. Kind of a pain in the arse.

That's ridiculous. It's funny the laws they pic to crack down on.
They need to crack down on the inconsiderate dumb arses that fish off the courtesy dock and get upset when I come in with my boat when the sign clearly states "courtesy dock. boat loading and unloading only."
Sorry for the venting. Anyway.... Tbass, I caught that 10.3 last April at the west side of the "main" island.I could give you a grid that would get you close to where I got her but it probaly would not do you any good since the grass is gone due to the flood last summer. I've caught a few at that spot but nothing like it used to be. If I were you I would concentrate on the east side of the island and fish the trees. There's alot of trees underwater on the east side. You'll see alot of other boats in the general area. Im pretty sure that's where the new lake record was caught 2 nights ago. 12.19 lbs. I caught my 10.3 one with a Tx rigged watermelon power worm but I have really caught some good fish split shoting a watermelon fluke with the weight about 2' above the hook. 1/8 oz weight. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info guys. I think we are putting in at Stillhouse Park. I will definitely get in touch with the club in regards to the permit.
Thanks for the info Bomber 89. I am probably going down as a non boater for this one so me and a buddy can split costs on gas and everything. I had a friend go down this past weekend and really liked the lake saying it was definately different from most lakes we fish. He had about a 16lb limit and said he caught his first fish on about his third cast.
My parents used to have a place on Whitney and it sounds like it is a similar lake. My favorite fishing is night fishing and it sounds like it would be a blast to night fish.
Thanks again guys.
