Loc: Where the fish are!
Nice fish! Those are Silver Carp, I believe, though actually quite unrelated to the common carp that's naturalized here in Texas. I'd have to ask Fishlady for the scientific name lol. Supposed to be good eating though, they oughta send net crews out on the river to try and get as many as they can, and have a giant fish fry hehe.

well the commercial neters on the river have been trying to sell them at fish markets in mississippi, but not doing to good. i fileted one up one time, way too boney, did not seem worth the meat, and i think they are plankton eaters

These fish were stocked in pond to control weeds and filter the ponds. When the Mississippi river flooded they got loose and exploded in population
i say we need to exterminate these fish as quickly as possible

Yeah but what should you do with them? According to many over in the rough fish section, it is illegal to kill a fish if you do not intend to eat it or use it for bait. If you kill as mnay of them as needs to be killed, you would not be able to eat them all.

MesquiteMan lets not start this. Big Ted is a carper and so am I and we have already posted in this thread. This is an "invasive species" and it does not exist in Texas. Lets not hijack this thread.
This was a serious question. There are a number of folks that insist that the law does not diferientiate between types of fish. That was brought up in a different discussion. It either does or doesn't. My question remains...what should one do with a bunch of silvers that they have tried to erradicate from a river system if they have way more than they can eat?
They are trying to use them for feed at the zoo's. Have not followed the project but it sounded good. I think that nature will find its own way of killing them off, though a HUGE BF tourney and fish fry sounds good to me! Sooner or later they will find a natural balance. Lets just hope its before we lose any other species. Invasive as hell and compete with bait fish and fry for plankton.
