I have a Maxxum 74 and it started kicking off and on with the power button pressed. I thought it was a loose wire or something, but after inspection everything looks to be in order. I can press the foot feet button and it will run for a few seconds and then stop then start and so on. When it stops you can hear a faint humm coming from the motor. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
Craig

Sounds like what they do when water gets inside motor. You are looking at taking to someone that repairs trolling motors.

Those motors had a foot switch in them different from what they are currently using. Might be cheaper to try that first. I had a switch go out that acted similar to that but I have also heard Gary's idea will act like that too.

Good luck.

I just recieved a brand new one, digital with US2 sonar.. this thing makes a heck of a motor noise when stepping on. its hums loud. loud enough to scare carp in shallow water 30 yards away. they would scatter when I stepped on the button at 30%... does that seem un-normal? i thought they were supposed to be super quiet? please help as I want to know if its unnormal- I may be calling Johnson Outdoors back today for a replacement!

Probably the PC board going out on it. Take it to an authorized service person. Everything is built in to that one board. Get ready. $160 for the board plus labor. Mine stuck at 100% twice.

I think I have it narrowed down to a mico switch under the foot pedel botton . Thanks to John Jones and B & W TROLLING MOTOR SERVICE. Both of these guys are top notch in my book.
