Forget the punchbaits. Use shad. It'll out fish any punchbait any day of the week.

Ya I use shed, blue gill, worms, shrimp or some type of live or cut bait. I’ve never fished with punch bait. Well to tell you the truth I’m just trying to get in to catfishing. Put me on a pond or stream when I was riding my bike I could get them on anything. I love to eat them but I just cant get on them in the lake know that I’m older and have a boat. frown
I just don't know what to look for hmmm

Chris,
Ok, you suckered me...
I use punch bait most of my fishing, in this order:

Blue cats: SureShot

Channels: SureShot or the old DK's (Absolutely will NOT use the new DK until it has been proven by fisermen to catch fish, NOT providers with a vested intrest.)

If I want smaller channels I will sometimes use a cheese Bait (Mostly Dip) and chum for them..

That said, SHAD is the absolute best for live or fresh frozen cat bait.

Remember, your just going to get personal opinions on this question.

For punch bait I stick with Sure Shot, Big Marv's and J-Pigg. I liked the old DK but the new batch doesn't even work good for chum. This is for box fish the type I like to clean and cook. For big blues or trophy cats I use shad.

Your not the only one. Me, & one of my fishing buddys use it all the time. We have been using Mr.Whiskers at Squaw Creek lake. And are pulling them in right, & left. Caught 38 cats last week in less than 3 hours. I love the stuff.

Hey Chris,

Welcome to the Forum,

Don't make the mistake of not trying Big Marv's Cheese Punch Bait. IMHO, Marv's is the Best on the Market. Marv's is the only bait I will carry on my boat. Check out my site to see how it works for us.

we used big marvs yesterday on the guadalupe for the first time. we caught about 25 i was blown away! i usually use shrimp, liver etc. but i am a believer we moved four times and caught fish every place we dropped anchor. the only problem is that it makes your beer taste like @$%#%! my wife almost wouldn't let me in bed AFTER a shower.

Been fishin with fresh dead Shad and DK's On Lewisville. Dk's is out fishing the shad by miles. The DK'S punch bait stays on the hook better. The original is not holding the hook as well but is catching more fish up to 5 lbs so far. The channels have been in the rocks lately and I am fishin with a cork. Thats my 2 cents. This is my first 2 jars of DK'S so I dont know what it was like before or what it is even supposed to be.

chris, where in bedford do you live? i live in hurst. i will take you out sometime and show you how to catch cats. stay away from punch bait, stick with shad. you might have a day that punch bait outfishes shad but out of every day you fish, shad will win 99 our ot 100 times.

what boat do you run? send me a PM and lets get in contact

Chris, I get mine at the bait shop 0n Hwy.144, right past Squaw Creek lake entrance. I use the cheese flavor 98% of the time. Some Wal-marts carry it.

Channels didn't seem to have any problems hitting our shad yesterday. Who wants to catch channels anyways, when you can catch a big ole blue laugh
