I have a 50lb bag of deer corn in my garage....can I use that somehow?
Deer corn (also called
maize here), can be a very good bait and chum. It's harder than sweet corn, so it's difficult to put on a hook, which is why we usually use it on a "hair rig."
See here for a discussion on how to prepare field corn:

http://pleasurefishing.com/html/hairrigs.htmA hair rig can be used whenever you normally fish with bait directly on the hook, but it really shines as part of a bolt rig:

The bolt rig uses a heavy sinker (usually 2 to 3 oz.) to help set the hook when a carp ingests a bait and swims away. In the above picture, the large "ball" is the sinker, and the claptrap it's connected to is designed to keep the lead in place during normal use; but if the mainline breaks or the lead gets snagged, the fish can get free so it's no longer tethered to the weight.
