Call your satellite company and BUMP down your service.

Call your mobile provider and BUMP down your minutes.

Make a LIST of your needs from the stores and DONT just

make a typical run for a few things. Make your drive count!

When ordering fast food, drop the fries or soda. Get a water.

Check your tires air pressure, to save gas.

Try to NOT rent dvds. I know, they can be addicting!

Trade services with your neighbors, lawn mowing etc.

Americans need to work MORE together to save.

Take to the time to listen to folks gripes. They just want to

let off some steam.

I wait till Blockbusters sells DVDs 3 for $10 and buy a few.

No need to return em and after awhile you have far more choices than cable or satellite.

Careful Tbend you may just become a conservative...That's how I've lived most of my life. I'm one of the cheapest people you'll ever meet...I haven't had satellite or cable in either home since around 1993.

Good post...Let's see how long you can keep this up...

Other ways to save money....

Turn off lights when not in a room, shower with the lights off (best if you have a window to let in light.

Buy 40 watt bulbs instead of 60 watt bulbs, they put off less heat, thus keeping room temp down and saving on a/c bills.

Use a wood burning fireplace in the winter (if you have one), and cut your own wood....great exercise.

Check window and door caulking for leaks...

Cook your own meals and freeze the extra as soon as you've finished cooking it...great for lunch and you won't have to eat out.

Print grocery store's online coupons and use them when shopping.

Turn off the 'dryer' on your electric dishwasher and allow the dishes to air dry (I save about $30 a month doing this).

You have to be specific when ordering water, some places are now serving bottled water so they can charge

Flip circuit breaker on electric water heater b4 U leave for work, or as someone suggested, just install an electrical timer on it. ( about $45 I think).

Place one half or a whole brick in the back of the toilet (water tank) if your water bill is high. ( most new toilets dont need it, but try it)

Turn the air conditioner compressor off in your car, one block before you reach your destination. It will still blow cold air for another minute.

As was mentioned...AIR up your car tires ! They can hold 32-35 lbs easily.

Change the air cleaner element in your car.

Wash most clothing in cold water. Every now and then hit those same clothes with a warm water washing, though.

Take a good hard look at you phone bill and internet service if it's DSL. Unless you're an online gamer or download a LOT of big files, you really wont notice the difference in a 1.5 meg connection and a 3 or 6 meg connection. RE: Phone bill ( land line)...Do you have the inside wire maintainence plan ? Do you really need it ? Can you repair a phone wire ? If so, drop it. It's optional in many areas.

RE: Car insurance full coverage:
Raise collision deductible. ( if I am stupid enough to hit a tree, I can pay the first $500 or $1000)
Dont know how Texas policies work, but you dont NEED the $5000 medical coverage on car insurance. You ahould have health insurance and your liability coverage takes care of passengers in your car. ( check on this for Texas)

Same goes for homeowner's deductible. $500 should be the minimum.

Stop shopping at convienence stores ! A pack of gum for $1.29 ??? Get it at the grocery store for 99 cents.

I rarely use my clothes dryer since I live alone. I either iron (or take them to the cleaners to be ironed) most everything I wear anyway. For some things, you can hang the up wet...then iron them. Do your skivvies really need to be dried in a dryer ?
Hang them in the bathroom at night. By morning they'll be dry.

Does your refrigerator REALLY need to feel like an Arctic blizzard inside ? Turn it down a 1/2 a notch if not.

< World's biggest penny pincher when I need to be.

There are lots of home owners with 1% deductible. That $500 seems a bit expensive. If you cover your home for, say, $120,000 then your deductible will be $1200. It's a lot cheaper that way.

Even though your tires might say 35 PSI (or whatever the #) on the side of the tire, remember, this is a maximum, not a recommended air pressure! Be sure to check your owners manual or the sticker on the inside of the drivers door jamb for the proper PSI for your vehicle.

Over/under inflation will affect gas milage as well as handling.

I refuse to put in the compact lights because of the mercury contained within...I have nerve problems in my hands and tend to drop things at the worst possible moment. All I need is a hazmat clean up bill because of the mercury in those... Besides, when you throw those away, they'll end up in a landfill and then we'll have mercury in the ground...

Yep, not only does the clothes dryer affect the electricity bill, it also affects the clothes, fading them more quickly. I hang up all my clothes and iron what needs to be ironed.

I bought a 1996 Saturn SW1 station wagon with 108,000 miles in November...I gave $2000 for it and have saved over $1200 thus far on gas and insurance. By the November anniversary of me purchasing it, it will have paid for itself. I had an Oldsmobile Aurora with the 4.0 V8 and it was good on gas mileage, but that premium fuel was killing me.

Yup, Trip 7, you are correct. I had forgotten that Texas' homeowner policies use a percentage rather than a flat dollar amount. My bad.
