That's a might fine BG, Jackieblue.

I appreciate the picture, also, which removes any doubt as to the size of the fish or the truth of the story. Nice going!!!

Nice fish Jackie!

I noticed you had waders on....I don't have a boat...would I be able to use waders to find some spots?

I have on bibs to a rain suit. I'd guess you could use waders, the fish are shallow.

Are the redfish the reason (by thinning the stunts and runts) there seems to be so many magnum sized sunfish in Fairfield? Without the predation, coppernoses would overpopulate and stunt, too, I assume.

It would be interesting to know the scientific answer to this...my theory is that redfish play a part, the warm water through the winters plays a big part in their growth, and overwintering Tilapia also play a part.

Tilapia help by . . . spawning and providing fry as 'gill forage? Don't tilapia eat bluegill babies, too? (I should know this from reading http://www.meadowlarkponds.com/.)

err.. I was afraid of this. I was 1 mile away from Fairfield State Park (on a scouting trip for bank fishing locations) and I didn't realize that was THE fairfield. Oh well...next for sure. wink

There are plenty of small sunfish of all varieties in Fairfield, I catch and use them for bait every week. Theres also lots of big sunfish and Tilapia.
