I noticed some slack in my steering wheel the other day, so I opened the cap on the column of the steering wheel. It is really low. What type of fluid do you add to it? Something special or can I pick it up at an auto parts store?

Thanks

It takes special fluid. Don't just put any fluid in there or you'll damage the seals. I bought some at Phil Dill boats in Lewisville. I think its about $25 a quart. There are some other fluids that will work but they are hard to find.

Check out this link.

Look up the manufacturer of your steering system and see what fluid they recomend. It is expensive, I paid 18.00 for a quart at the boating center in Lewisville on 3040 by the mall.

Lakeguide, Be sure to inspect your steeering system for leaks. The fluid does not just get low. We do have the Sea Star hyd. fluid in stock.

Tommy is correct. You first need to find the leak. If you have a seastar system, it is most likely at the helm or the cylinder seals. The seastar fluid is about $19/quart.
