Wish2BFishiN asked about outings for beginners That is a fine idea.

One aspect of this is casting. We'd probably want to be sure that casting lessons were separate from fishing trips although that's not anything cast in stone.

My schedule is hella unpredictable and I am way up in McKinney but I'm willing to do some fishing with a beginner if they want to work out a good time for us both.

Any of you other fellows interested in mentoring beginning fly anglers?

Robin and Wish2BFishiN, the fishing trip is a good idea. It is also a good idea to seperate the casting lessons from the fishing trip.

FYI, there are some opportunities for casting lessons in the DFW area coming up. The FWFF'ers have their annual casting clinic on their calendar for June 3, May 17 at Eisenhower State Park on Lake Texoma we'll have some rods out for informal lessons as part of the park's 50th anniversary, June 21 also at Eisenhower there will be casting lessons from multiple instructors, fly tying, and fly fishing instruction as part of "Texoma on the Fly", and Al Crise has another one of his clinics scheduled for June 28 in Glenn Rose. Most of these events are free.

Also, every 2nd Tuesday of the month the FWFF have a casting and tying clinic at Cabela's in Fort Worth. It's a sweet deal to get great tips and pointers from a great group of guys.

I am certainly not good enough to mentor anyone yet. But I could watch someone and tell them what I think about their loops...if that would help and they were in my area.

This is great news - where would I find more information about this? Time, etc..
I looked at the FWFF website and did not find the specifics.

BPS Garland has beginner fly casting classes every Saturday and Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Free, and you can use our gear to beat up. \:\)
Let me know you're coming, and I'll be sure to "put on the dog" for ya !
I'd love to go on some of the outings, anybody got any hot bream/ bass holes?

Robin,

I would be willing to throw my limited assistance in the mix if it helps. I think the idea could be great really, maybe split the time between casting and fishing.

Eric

thank you for that kind offer. I am sure that some of these folks will pop up and want these lessons.

Perhaps we could coordinate this with Bill and BPS classes? Casting then fishing. That would be easiest if we could find some spots on Ray Hubbard.

I did my initial class at BPS Grapevine - the guy who did the class was great.
I am probably like most beginners and need time casting but also want to do some fishing. Reminds me of what my old football coaches used to say - you only learn so much practicing - you really learn doing!

A split time would be great - caste class for a while - then try to hit a hole to fish!!

I can teach people where to catch fish but I can't teach them how to cast.
