Not used to this two cycle 50:1 gas to oil ratio. I only have pint containers. Is one pint for every six gallons of gas ok? I think this is right. If not, what should is ok?

Thanks

Any 12 oz plastic drink bottle (gatorade, etc) filled to the rim is the correct amount of oil for 5 gallons of gas. It takes a tad more than 12oz but if you fill it to the rim you get the extra you need. If you want to be more exact, purchase a bottle of lawn mower pre-mix oil for 5 gallon of gas. You CAN NOT use this oil for an outboard however.

Academy sells plastic measuring cups for outboard oil that is marked in several ratios. (40:1,50:1,etc.) This allows you to add any amount gas, check the cup mark, and correctly add the right amount of oil. No more trying to figure out how much is needed.

Thanks. That works out very close to 1 pint per 6 gallons. Nice formula Bullit! I like it.

It's 1/3 of a cup per gallon. A pint per 6 gallons. Give or take an ounce here or there.

get the measuring bottle, they're worth the 3 dollars...

i think one pint to 6 is like 2.666666666666 oz per gallon, and 12oz to five gal is like 2.59999999999 oz per gallon. just stick your thumb in the air and guesstimate wind, and pour.

Shouldn't it come out to 6.25 gallons?

That's how I always measure it: a pint per 6 gallons. I just fill up when I have at least 6 gallons of empty tank. Just pour in the whole pint, put in 6 gallons, and you're good to go. No measuring cup hassle. A bigger tank, just make it it two pints for every 12 gallons.

That is why they make portable tanks in 3 & 6 gallons

Buy yourself a single pint of outboard oil....and then buy a gallon, too. In the case of OMC oil, the PINT bottle is marked on the side. When you need to mix for 6 gallons of gas, simply pour the oil out of the gallon jug into the pint bottle, using it as a measuring device....then pour it in the tank. For 6 gallons of gas...use a whole bottle ( 16 OZ)...for 3 gallons, use 8 OZ of oil.... for 1.5 gallons of gas, use 4 OZ...etc.

I have about 4 of these old pint bottles in the back of my boat, along with a couple of empty quart bottles of OMC oil just for this purpose.

By the way, a pint per 6 gallons makes a 48:1 mix. That's a little extra lube for a little "insurance," I figure.

I made up this Spread sheet chart (formula calculated it for me) and printed it out and mounted it to the deck lid covering my gas tank compartment

FUEL MIXTURE CHART

GAL. OZ. OF OIL GAL. OZ. OF OIL

18.00 48.00 9.00 24.00
17.75 47.33 8.75 23.33

In the "post" it had all the spaces in it necessary to be legible, but it didn't actually post that way when I submitted it. The first number is gallons and the second number is oz. of oil, 3rd number is gas, 4th number is oz. of oil.
