Many of you have probably seen my "Wonder how big this one was.." post in the photo section. If you haven't, long story short, I had a bass straighten the hook on a 3/8 oz Stanley Wedge spinnerbait. It was a big bass, I saw her briefly, but it was a new spinnerbait and there's no way the hook should have straightened out like that.

I decided to write an e-mail to Stanley Lures just to let them know what happened and I attached a picture of the spinnerbait. I have heard of lure companies having bad batches before so I figured I would let them know about it in case they wanted to research it. I wasn't mad nor was I expecting anything. In fact I wasn't even expecting a response. Boy was I wrong!!

The head of their customer service department contacted me in less than 10 minutes!!! She was extremely apologetic and asked for my address so she could send me a replacement ASAP. She also let me know that she had personally placed a copy of the e-mail and the picture in Mr. Stanley's hands and that he would personally look into it and call me if he found any problems. Shortly after this she contacted me AGAIN to let me know that Mr. Stanley had contacted the manufacture in NORWAY to let them know about it as well.

I've heard of going above and beyond but this is just crazy. It is so awesome to find a company these days that truly stand behind their products and their customer service. They have made a customer for life.

Their customer service makes me want to buy their product.

Your straightened hook makes me want to avoid their product.

I don't know how it happened. The bass was big but I don't know how big. I only saw her head / mouth but if I was guessing she was 8+. It was in open water so it wasn't because of a stump or anything. I stuck her hard and fought her for about a minute or so and then my line just went limp. When I reeled it in i saw this:

They told me in their response e-mail that it was probably an error in the tempering process that made the hook weaker than normal. From what I understand the hooks are tempered in mass quantity and on very rare occasion one gets missed some how.

THAT'S customer service.

I left a voicemail with a certain Texas based rod manufacturer yesterday afternoon and still haven't received a return call.

I have a couple of Stanley Wedge spinners. While they have caught fish the skirts don't last long and the paint does not like rocks.

I've never had a problem with their skirts but I agree with you on the paint. I usually put a couple of coats of epoxy on my spinnerbait and jig heads to make them a little tougher.

I have caught so many fish on these spinnerbaits-it's unreal. I had a client from PA who had never caught a bass over 2.5 lbs and I had him fishing with a spinning rod and a 3/8oz Stalney Terminator spinnerbait and he caught an 11lb, 15oz hog out of Choke Canyon, plus about 30 others between 3 and 8 lbs--he didn't fish for an hour after that and I'm pretty sure he called everyone who lived in PA at the time! I'll continue to buy them--especially now that I heard that. If a 12 lb fish won't bend a hook, then something must have gone mad wrong with that particular batch. Good on em!
