I agree with the Boiling Pot if you like that kind of thing (might be a bit spicy for some folks). I also like Charlotte Plummers restaurant and the Big Fisherman is good too (really large portions).

Is the Big fisherman the place that used to have animals behind glass that you could watch as you eat? It burned what, 15 years ago or so. Yeah, that place was good and plenty of food. If I remember right, it was pretty cheap too.

They are not short on restaurants for sure. There are others that I didn't mention because I couldn't remember the names, just know how to get to them. Anyway, not sure about bbq joints in the area. When I go to Rockport/Port A, it's all about the seafood for me. We generally eat at some form of seafood restaurant every evening, just mix it up from place to place since they are all a little different.

The only restaurant that stays open late is Panjos. We get off the water late and go eat there because it's usually the only one still open. Slim pickens in Rockport.

If you have a hankering fro Chinese food , the Hu-Dat restaurant in Rockport is excellent. Owned by the family of Dat Nguyen, Dallas Coboy.

There is a restaurant next to the ramp at Cove Harbor and it had good food, the Big Fisherman IMHO is not the restaurant it once was, although it still is a big draw. Awhile back I tried a little place called The Diner, it had a great seafood platter for a real reasonable price.

The Big Fisherman needs to cut back on breading. Everything there is extra fried.. You get a huge plate of food.. but once you stomach down the 10-12 ounces of extra greasy breading, your left with about 2 ounces of actual seafood. Its like they bread it then fry it then bread it again then fry again.. Maybe 3 times!! Me and my buddies left there feeling like we drank a 10 gallon jug of vegetable oil. Only eaten there once, maybe they had an off night or something.

I had the Jumbo Fried Shrimp at Big Fisherman several nights ago. It tasted like it had been breaded and fried in some factory, then heated in a microwave. It wasn't in the same class with the shrimp I can get right here in San Antonio at Sea Island, for the same price. The tartar sauce was awful--tasted like salad dressing with a little pickle relish thrown in. The ranch dressing tasted like it came from a 5 gallon jug. There was also a 2 inch piece of corn-on-the-cob. It was mushy, and had obviously been frozen. I'll give them an A+, though, on quantity--way more than I could eat. The guy next to me was eating oysters, and they looked good.

The restaurant next to Cove Harbor marina is called 'Off the Hook'. It's a good place for the tired fisherman to have a brew and some Mahi Mahi or Flounder after a long day on the bays.
