RR, A friend and I were fishing McPhearson slough last year drifting for blues with cut shad and my friend caught a 45# flathead. It shocked us both that it hit cut shad but I guess when they're hungry, they're hungry. We were about even with the boatramp that is closest to the island when he caught it. I think the pearch would do fine. I would think the places your looking at would be good. I've never caught a flathead but would love to. With the rains we're getting you might try the Denton creek side. Close to some lay-downs or timber. Looks like the winds turned out of the SE now so you might try the N side of the creek. Tiny gave me this website for weather history so you can check which way the wind has been blowing for whatever amount of time you want. Daily, weekly, monthly, etc. Its http://www.wunderground.com . Click on history and I put DFW for the location. It's a great website if you don't have it already. Good luck to ya. We really need to get together sometime.
Michael

Dang, I guess it took awhile to type my reply. I thought about going late Sat. afternoon but haven't cleared it with the War Dept. yet. I've been chasing sandys lately trying to broaden my horizions. I know Sun. it wasn't much fun with the crazies out there. I found out at work that there was a tourney out there and I guess thats why we had bass boats going by at WFO. I expect it from the jet fleas and pleasure boaters but not fellow fishermen.

i am going out almost for sure saturday late afternoon-ish. i am going to catch some perch and shad and then play with the sandies for a while, then head up towards the marshall or denton creek area and fish shallow (3-7') for blues and flatheads. i am guessing i will get out around 6ish.

are the main ramps open yet or just the high water ramp at katies woods? might even launch at dove loop, not sure.

I launched at dove loop Sun. There's no courtesy dock there. We also had to back my truck tires in the water in order to launch. Its such a shallow slope. I checked Katy woods and it was pretty full at the time so we went to dove loop. I saw another ramp further into the slough and it looked like it had a courtesy dock. According to one map it's called McPhearson Slough ramp located on 2500 Catfish lane. I've never launched there but you might want to check it out. Looks like you would turn left off of horseshoe tr. off of dove loop then rt on catfish lane.
Here's a map of the City of Grapevine facilities. Thats where I'm getting this info from if you don't have it already. http://www.ci.grapevine.tx.us/Portals/0/park%20road%20correct%20rename%208-.pdf

Hey Jas---Give me a call when you want to hit GV. I need to get out with someone and get some pointers before I take the kids and look bad. I need to practice tossing my net. I've been hitting the shad pretty good. It helps on LA. Drop a line sometime.

i am not too sure what i am going to do. the wind look like it is shifting from S to N saturday evening. i would like to catch some fish, i know that. rich, see if you can go to GV saturday evening, i will let you know what my plans are. i will more than likely launch around 6ish. my plan would be to catch a few perch, then some shad, then maybe catch some sandies and then head up to get some cats.

That sounds like a good plan---If needed---I'll go hit LA and catch a few dozen shad and bag'em for Saturday night. I usually will put them on the freezer door so they don't get too hard.
6ish would work for me.

i want to go fish with terry sometime! would be fun, i havent ever been on EM and woudl like to, it is close as well.

it looks like we are going to launch around 530 or 6 saturday evening at the vine.

i know i will be able to load up on shad between the bubbles (small shad) and the cove (large shad). then i will head towards the marina and catch some perch. then we will catch some sandies either on top water or slabbin. after the sandies, we will head up to the denton creek or marshall creak area and tie off and go for blues with shad and flatheads with perch.

hows that sound?

Sounds like a good plan to me. I was just lookin at wunderground and looks like the winds can't decide which way it wants to blow. I was gonna say fish the windblown side but who knows where that would be. Shallow flooded timber and laydowns. I've never targeted flatheads but sounds like pearch would do the trick. Might get a big ole blue too. If the creeks don't give up nothing you might try McPhearson slough or Rock Ledge and Murrell park areas. Best of luck to ya.

look like the katies woods ramp is back open so the lake must be back down some huh? to me, the katies woods ramp is the easiest to get to and is the best for parking. plus, you are really close to the bubbles and cove to get shad \:\)

well, i dont like turtles at ALL! they end up having better days when i catch them.

the fishing saturday was not good at all, the shad were easy to catch and the perch were biting anyhow smile

had a couple runners where we were fishing and also had one perch get really mad and start swimming hard but no takers. better luck next time. was nice to get out with rich and just relax and have good conversation
