I have bought one of the new Ambassador silvermax reels. I had to take the first one back after it quit retrieving my lure after 10 cast. Took it back to walmart got another and it never did act wright from the first cast. Won't cast but about 17 yards with a tail wind and you can hear the gears Oh grindin. These are right out of the package mind you. Oh and yes I know how to work and adjust baitcasters. Getting tired of waisting expesive line on a junk reel that cost over 60 bucks. Anyone else had the same issue?
Take that 60 bucks and buy a BPS extream reel. You can find them on sale for 50 at times of the year. One of my tournament partners has 15 of them on $300 rods. I still give him [censored] about that but there is nothing wrong with his reels they work like a champ every time
You get what you pay for with baitcasters.Cheap ones never last.
monk, I have found that, while I don't always get what I pay for, I always seem to pay for what I get!
daiwa PT100, a fine baitcaster for $50

I'm not familiar with your particular reel, but a couple of my old Ambassadeurs have Flippin Switches on them. If the Flippin Switch is engaged, just as soon as you take your thumb off the thumbar, your cast stops and the buzz gears whine. Could this possibly be your problem?
Thanks for the responses. When did ABU Garcia become a cheap reel. I have seen reels for over 600 bucks and I think that is hillarious unless it tells you excactly where the fish is and what lure and what color etc. I have used their round reels for years and years and they are still great. It is not like I bought a Shakespear bait caster for goodness sake. I did enjoy a 39 dollar BPS reel for years, however a few saltwater trips took care of that one.
