Put this on the smoker at 8:30 am...came off at 8pm. While it was on the smoker...I brewed up some homemade BBQ sauce. The result was mouth watering! \:\)

I used mesquite...I normally use applewood, but was out. It was very good. It's time for leftovers!

I use a rub made by Texas BBQ Rub...I believe it's their original. If you google Texas BBQ Rub you will find it easily. They are based out of a small town near Houston. I will never use another rub...they are EXCELLENT!!!!!!

I place the meat right on the rack...and spray with apple juice a few times throughout the process. I also put a pan of apple juice over my heat source.

I'm going to have to do another soon...they are so good!

I did my first last week and it was a 15 hour smoke job. I injected the butt with a apple juice/bbq sauce I made thin and basted it a few times.

Yours looks like it pulled apart perfect. My tempature got away from me and I had a little tougher pig than I wanted when I was done but I cleavered it and it was a great chop.

Save te drippings for the bun sauce!!!!!

This is a must for a party - my friends were so happy to have a different Q for a change.

Toss the pan , meat and all in a big brown paper bag and let it sit and hour before you shred it. Straight from grill to pan. Makes it a tons juicier. You get in a hurry and it will be dry. If they go on sale someone post it. I remember one time last year they were .39 cents a pound. I should have bought the store out for that price.

I highly recommend that you use a meat thermometer and cook pork butt to an internal temperature of about 200* if you are using it for pulled pork. It will fall apart! Yum!

I cringe when I hear people talk about smoking meat for a certian length of time. Meat thermometers are cheap.

EDIT: But as a rule of thumb, allow about an hour per pound.

That looks great.. I cooked my first pork shoulder in the Orion cooker I just bought. It was really good, not terribly smokey, which is my fault, but definitely moist and tender. The gimmick with this thing is that it supposed to cook fast, which it really does. That shoulder was right at 11l bs and cooked in just under 4 hours.

I'm going to try some ribs and dove tomorrow.

I think you may have had a pre cooked shoulder, big difference in cooking times.

It's the cooker.. It's almost like a roaster, everything is enclosed and it never actually comes in contact with any flame.. It'll supposedly do ribs in a little over an hour.

It's called the orion cooker.. I got it on Woot the other day.

i've seen some good reviews on it, but some have said that it doesn't really smoke very well. you can put wood chips in it and it definitely smokes, but not a lot, and because it cooks faster, the smoke doesn't have as long to do it's magic.

Not to bust anyone's bubble, but a pork butt roast is about the easiest piece of meat you can cook. It doesn't take an experienced cooker to tear one of this up.

You can't go wrong!
