Wow, post spawn lock jaw fish on Canyon right now. Went out Monday and Thursday afternoon for about two hours a piece and the action has slowed. My guess, is the fish are done with the spawn and are trying to recooperate. Fish have been few, and the bite has been strange to say the least. Caught approx. 12 fish last night in 2 1/2 hours. Not much size, mostly males in about 10-15 ft. I had planned on hitting some main lake points (deep) but these wonderful hurricane force winds we have had all year kept me from doing that. Not sure if this helps anyone, but its what I have seen out there. Anyone else having luck on Canyon?????

I'll be out there Sunday afternoon for a few hours. I'll post a report, but it sounds like it won't be much.

went out Friday afternoon/evening, not even 1 bite. Tried several colors and different baits. Nats or some type of flying bug was ruthless.

Talk to another guy who said he caught several, but all were very small.

Finese worms and small topwater. You have to fish right at day break and night fall.Hard to catch during the day on a weekend.

Yep, out there last night caught about 5-10 fish mostly small.

Did catch one about 4 lbs on topwater, hungry, skinny postspawn female. She smoked the topwater I was chunking. Fish are biting very strange. They will thump a plastic right now. However, when you pick it up you can feel them swimming with it/ set the hook and nothing. I probably missed 20 fish that way. Throwing a drop shot on 8 lb line right by Papa Docks and caught a 10-12 lb bluecat. The fight was on, I fought that monkey for ten minutes I bet. My hand is recovering from his teeth now.

went out this evening, found a spot out of the wind along the bank @ papa docks. fished out about 12 yards in 15' of water & caught 15 or so all small fish , nothing over 14" long! was fun though!! fishing a drop shot w/ watermelon red zoom finesse worm. I know there are some bigger fish in this lake however, they have been avoiding me every time I have out this year?

Wonder where the big ones are, cuz they aren't on Dunlap either. I fished it on Sunday...that lake sucks. I think I'll be fishing Canyon from here on out. At least the skiiers won't always be 10ft away out there.

Next time you encounter fish picking up your worm and swimming off, and then setting the hook on seemingly nothing, try tieing on a small crappie jig or tube, and see what happens.

Had this happen before and ended up loading the boat with 15 nice slab crappie as a bonus!

I originally thought it was perch, but perch normally don't hold it, and it's more of a bumpity bump and then nothing, but throwing the crappie jig proved it was crappie instead.

Went up last week thursday, on the Guadalupe river to get out of wind, trolling 7 rods behind the toon, caught about 14 whites, okay keepers, but then snagged a 24" and 23" Stripers - 1st time I have ever caught Stipers at Canyon. Mid afternoon, went out again on saturday - bad choice - boaters up and down - no courtesy at all - they need to take some freakn lessons.

Good news about the stipers! Last time I caught stripers that big was before the big flood a few years back, so maybe they are back in some decent numbers again!

As for fishing Canyon on a weekend, I think I'd rather have a root canal than fight the.....Never mind, I'll just say I'll never fish Canyon on a weekend if I can help it.

Glad to hear the stipers are hitting, but is there still a consumption ban on the stripers here at Canyon? That would be a real downer.

Last I checked there was.
If they are glowing green, don't eat them!
Seriously, last I check there was still a warning on them and Gar.

Friday last week caught 3 blacks early morning 2 to 10 feet off secondary points. I usually go out for a couple of hours in the mornings before the water flees and tube bounces break out.

I fished Canyon yesterday morning out of my kayak (gone green for the summer). I started the morning with a Tiny Torpedo. Bass and perch tore it up early. Around 8:30 I switched to a finesse worm and caught 2 14-15" fish and lots of 10-12". These were found in 10-15 of water. I did have 1 fish break me off. I haven't had that in awhile (and I am using 10lb flouro/carbon).
Headed back to the ramp trolling around 10:30 and caught another small bass on a deep minnow cranbbait. The lake peeps were beginning to arrive on the water.
