FYI...
Steve Hollensed, an FFF certified fly casting instructor and an Orvis endorsed fly fishing guide on Lake Texoma and Lake Ray Roberts, is hosting a Warmwater Flycasting School on Friday, June 13 and Saturday, June 14 in the Sherman area.
The major emphasis for the school will be improving casting distance, sharpening up accuracy, correcting problems that are typical with warmwater and saltwater flycasting (like fishing with big flies, which is my nemesis).
The Friday evening session in Sherman runs from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and covers the essential principles of good casting; casting styles and self-optimization; matching fly lines to angling objectives; strategies in improving your cast; and a Q&A session.
On Saturday a.m., he will analyze each participants current casting stroke on his home casting field in Tom Bean and will help improve your foundational casting ability. Saturday p.m. will be aimed at helping attendees develop special casts and advanced casting techniques for warmwater/saltwater applications.
Class size is limited to five students and the cost is $150 (which includes a BBQ meal on Friday and lunch on Saturday).
He's also offering a 1/2 day instructional trip for 1 or 2 people on Lake Texoma - you can check with him for details at (903) 546-6237 or visit his Flywater Angling Adventures Web site at
http://www.flywaterangling.com .
My two cents, Steve is perhaps the top fly casting instructor in North Texas and this is a great, great way to improve your casting skills (and maybe pick up a thing or two about catching those pesky stripers on the fly!).
Best,
