How do you set the Scales for culling a 3 fish limit.

Never had the need for 3 fish limit.

As far as I know, you can only set your X-Tools to cull either a five fish or seven fish limit.

I'm not sure if you've seen this and can't make it work, or if you haven't seen the instructions. If not, here they are. The part about changing the cull is on the right and it's the red/orange button. It says you can set the cull to anywhere between 2-15. If the photo is too small to read I click on it and it enlarges. Hope this helps.

Clear the memory, then hold the orange button down until it goes into a selection mode. I can't remember if it will go down to three, but it will for sure do more than just 5 or 7. It'll do all the way to 10.

Worst case if it doesn't go to 3: Set it at 5, use you hand and pull the scale to set about a 20# fish for #1 and #2, and the scale should never cull those. If it does, you need to come get me and show me where you are fishing.

I decided to link as Co boater on the BWS on CC and figured worst case scenrio was i'd just have to check the weights individual and cull by reviewing the weights.

I've lost all confidence in my XTools scale and you probably will to. I use a balance beam to cull with now. It's 100% accurate.

Take your XTools and measure the same item 5 times. When you get 3-5 different readings you'll probably also decide not to use it to cull with.

I'm a biomedical engineer, and calibrating all types of hospital equipment is my job. I have calibrated weights that I have used to perform maintenance with.

I have learned exactly what you said. My scale is now within 3/4 of an ounce light on average of media's scales and BassChamps.

The trick on that scale is to ensure it is held straight up and down as to not let the free swinging clamp hit along the body of the scale.

Almost impossible to achieve. A good wrist strap to hold the scale has eliminated some of the in-accuracy.

I have went from the Berkley scale to the X tools scale. Alot of money on scales that don't work for the money I paid.

Any other scales out there that don't require punching a hole into the fishs mouth?

I've got a friend who has bought the new Berkley culling system. He swears up and down he has tried the same experiment a couple of times and gets consistant results. I've yet to try it but it doesn't punch holes in the fish.

For culling purposes I'm of the opinion that I don't care about scale accuracy, I want scale consistancy.

EXACTLY. There are a lot of posts when this topic comes up griping about how far off/close <insert scale brand here> are to Media, BassChamps, CABA... scales. That doesn't matter when you are culling.

I haven't had the consistency problem with my XTools, but I will most likely check it again before I use it next.

My X Tools scale/culling system has consistently weighed my fish too heavy, but at least it seems to be consistent. As long as is weighs consistently, it serves my purpose when it comes to culling.

It makes no real difference to me if it says a 2 pound, 2 ounce fish weighs 2 pounds, 4 ounces...as long as it doesn't say that my two pound, one ounce fish weighs 2-5, and I end up culling the wrong fish.

If the fish are within an ounce of each other, we use a balance beam just to be sure.

That is interesting. Mine seem to weigh heavy.
