If you are looking for a knowledgeable, friendly & polite guide, choose JC Gwynne, "The Amistad Man". He will discuss your trip with you before you go out to determine what you want to do. If you want to catch big fish, he will target big fish, if you just want to go fishing and catch a bunch of fish...he's all over that. If you want to learn how to use a depth finder/GPS unit, he will walk you through that and hold your hand all the way. He will not use your time to scout for fish for an upcoming tournament. You can also find JC at the Tackle Shop at Angler's in the afternoon and early evening. He works there and is always helpful and willing to talk "Amistad Fishing with anyone !!
Anglers Lodge is the best place to stay if you're there for fishing. Carl & Diane cater to anglers and their lodge is set up for anglers. They have clean, comfortable rooms, the A/C works and will be left on while you are away from the room, pretty good showers, the breakfast tacos are real good as are the hamburgers/cheeseburgers. They have gasoline and will charge it to your room for convenience if you like. They are close to the good ramps, close to boat/motor repair facilities and they have an outstanding Tackle store on premises. There is no reason to have to go anywhere except to fish or enjoy a better meal in the evening. Two excellent Steak Houses are close by and Del Rioo proper is only 10-15 minutes away.
You can't go wrong with either !!!
I have also stayed at Lakeview Inn a few times and it won't come close to comparing with Angler's Lodge. It is OK if you are just looking for a bed and a shower and their parking is somewhat better than Angler's, but not much. Last time I stayed there they only had breakfast on the weekends when a guy came in with his "portable kitchen" and would fix breakfast.
