My fishing partner and I are looking at booking a trip to Amistad in early fall/late summer and was wondering who we should choose as a guide for our trip. Who out there has been on a guided trip on Amistad and how was it... Good guide, good conversation and most important did you learn anything?

Where did you stay? Did the guided trip and the lodging come as a package deal or seperate? What was the cost for both?

Thanks for you help...

Most definitely JC Gwynne and stay at Angler's Lodge.

JC is extremely knowledgeable and easy to talk to. I learned a bunch from him both times I went.

Carl and Diane run an outstanding lodge. The breakfast burritos are awesome. The cheeseburger is a must have. They are extremely helpful with anything you could possibly need, too.

Ditto for JC. I'm going out again May 10th. If you want to learn the lake he's excellent.

I would reccomend Ray Hanselman. This guy will flat put you on some fish. No, wonder every time a guide is in the newspaper, its him.

can anyone tell me why we should choose anglers lodge over any other lake hotel.

Are the rooms decent, A/C works, rooms aren't to beat up etc.

Anyone have any reviews on the Lakeview Inn

Thanks

If you are looking for a knowledgeable, friendly & polite guide, choose JC Gwynne, "The Amistad Man". He will discuss your trip with you before you go out to determine what you want to do. If you want to catch big fish, he will target big fish, if you just want to go fishing and catch a bunch of fish...he's all over that. If you want to learn how to use a depth finder/GPS unit, he will walk you through that and hold your hand all the way. He will not use your time to scout for fish for an upcoming tournament. You can also find JC at the Tackle Shop at Angler's in the afternoon and early evening. He works there and is always helpful and willing to talk "Amistad Fishing with anyone !!

Anglers Lodge is the best place to stay if you're there for fishing. Carl & Diane cater to anglers and their lodge is set up for anglers. They have clean, comfortable rooms, the A/C works and will be left on while you are away from the room, pretty good showers, the breakfast tacos are real good as are the hamburgers/cheeseburgers. They have gasoline and will charge it to your room for convenience if you like. They are close to the good ramps, close to boat/motor repair facilities and they have an outstanding Tackle store on premises. There is no reason to have to go anywhere except to fish or enjoy a better meal in the evening. Two excellent Steak Houses are close by and Del Rioo proper is only 10-15 minutes away.

You can't go wrong with either !!!

I have also stayed at Lakeview Inn a few times and it won't come close to comparing with Angler's Lodge. It is OK if you are just looking for a bed and a shower and their parking is somewhat better than Angler's, but not much. Last time I stayed there they only had breakfast on the weekends when a guy came in with his "portable kitchen" and would fix breakfast.

GL&GF,
Bill

My wife and I just got back from a week on Amistad. We stayed at The Anglers Lodge. Carl and Dianne are great host's and have made alot of improvements there. The rooms are very clean and the grill was very tastie. The tackle shop had very good prices also. We also got to meet JC Gwynne while we were there. He is a streight up guy and a fine person. I would recommend him to anyone.
