Took a trip to Broken Bow today and I had the chance to fish and walk a lot of the "open" sections of the river today. It was very interesting to see what the water release had changed on the LMF river. Spillway Creek was different in many ways. Logs washed downstream, boulders moved and the edges of the creek changing significantly are some of the changes I saw. Lost Creek and the Evening Hole looked mostly the same, there were small changes to both though.
The water is still a little stained and visibility is low. But, that isn't stopping fish from feeding. I didn't have great success but still had about 6-8 strikes in various areas, and lifted about 6 fish to hand. It was still a great day to be on the river.
I did catch fish in the Evening Hole, they are in the deep water and not feeding heavily. I think that the fish that were out in the open feeding by the "peninsula" may have moved downstream though. They were smaller fish and might not have handled the extra water well. I did see some rises in Lost Creek, Evening Hole and Spillway Creek. They weren't consistent, but they were there.
It will be interesting to see what needs to happen to the areas that lost structure and support. I think it could have been a much, much worse event than it was. I think that there will be some "new" water that we can fish and it may add some new fun to fishing the LMF.
Good luck and go fishing!
