Hello everyone,
I need some HELP.........I have a 2003 Skeeter SX 190 and I carry 5-6 baitcast rods in each side of the rod storage area. I keep having problems with the rods getting tangled, etc.
I am looking for an in-expensive rod storage syatem that will fit into each side of my rig. Anyone have any ideas????? Thanks in advance for your input.

Me too. I've been toying with the ides of building my own, like a second level on the bow. Wide enough for 4 sets on each side. Sturdy enough to walk on. I see now why a lot of guides use Makos and that type of walk around boats that store rods vertically.

One thing that helps me is when you put your rods away place your lure on the reel or hook keeper, reel up all the slack, then wrap the line around the length of the rod 3 or 4 times using the rod guides to wrap around, this helps alot when placing your rods together. The main problem then will be with your spinning reels handles getting caught on lines. When you ready to fish just un-wrap the line. It only takes a few seconds to unwrap.

I stopped using a rod locker and just keep them strapped to the deck when fishing. No matter what I try, if they end up in the locker, somewhere, somehow...one or all of them will end up in a angled mess if retrieved from a locker.

Hey, at least I can lay down and sleep in the lockers now that they are empty.

Thanks for the replies. Bamaboy, I usually strip off about 6' of line before fishing and retie my lures before a tournament, that is exactly how I store my rods in each side and somehow they seem to get tangled with each other by driving down the road and while on the water. Any more suggestions please??????

I have seen some people use a type of plastic netting that slides over the whole pole down to the reel. I think that this stuff is usually used to package parts with and probably comes in rolls. It will stetch to fit what you are trying to cover and protect it from damage. The ones I saw on rods were usually big enough to just slide over the rod easily and removed easily.

Rod Stowr...Usually inexpensive, or you could get an idea to do it yourself. Try searching, some guys on here have done some remarkable things with golf tubes and plastic cutting boards.

Now I catfish alot. So In also use treble hooks.I use the plastic lure boxes you get at the bass pro shop to keep my hook and sinker in. I then put a sticky type of velcro on the box and then some sewing type of velcro that doesn't have any sticky side on it. I use this to wrap it around the pole and hook on to the lure box. This stopped the tangle mess I use to have with the hooks or the sinker line. Especially when I had them in the back of the truck. But you can also use it for on the boat also.

Blu-Ranger, that looks great, but how did you make the rod butt end? Would you be interested in making a couple of sets for my Skeeter? I would gladly pay you since I really don't have to time to do it myself?
Thanks

Blu-Ranger I sent a reply via PM.

I emailed Skeeter 3x asking who makes the rod holder system for the skeeter boats or if I can purchase a couple and of course thay have not replied. What did you use to measure the front of the rod box? Maybe a piece of cardboard where you can bend it over and remove to cut?

I have about the same size boat(ZX176),and it is so short on the rod compartment length, even if you build a great rod holder you will still have problems,I even tried cutting holes through the back wall under the passenger side console

get some popsycle sticks..cut a piece of cardboard SMALLER than the opening in locker.. put the cardboard in locker and place the sticks to the edges on the compartment (use tape) then take your templet out and lay in on your cutting board, or what ever you are going to use, and connect the dots..

I did the same thing (cutting board and golf tubes) and it works great! You may need to experiment with ways to keep the tubes secure. Mine kept sliding down the rod. For the but ends.... I use reel wraps and let the reels sit on the handles of the rods. They lay fairly flat and with the wraps I don't get a scrapes or rash.

Thanks for the replies. I did get an email from Skeeter who stated I can purchase the 8 Rod Holder System from Skeeter but I would have to go through my dealer to buy it. I called my dealer and asked but no reply.

Tame the Tangle. My name is Ron and I own the Stick Jacket company. Stick Jacket. If you are a boater or coangler, you will find Stick Jackets a big help keeping your rods tangle free. Give them a try, it would be appreciated. Be sure to visit our dealer page for one near you.

Here's a picture of my rod locker.
