Put the Yak in the water around 10:00 am. Didn't see any point in hurrying as cold as it was yesterday. Didn't figure there to be too much of a bite until the water warmed back up. Paddled along the north bank of Big Sandy. Marked a ton of fish suspended at all levels in about 11 feet of water. Tried Little Georges and Rattle traps but couldn't get a hit. At this point the plan was to find the old side creek channel that is shown on all the lake maps just north of Shayhan point. I've seen plenty of boats anchored up out there and I wanted to get it marked on my GPS. This just happened to be when my GPS decided to [censored] out on me.
Paddled on across to the two small coves just south of Crescent Oaks. Lost a LMB on the south bank of the first one. Found some fish suspended around stumps in the second. Thinking they were Crappie, I set up my anchor and got some lines out. Phone rings. It's my buddy that I am supposed to meet at Crescent Oaks Park, so lines back in, anchor up and back to paddling. Trolled the points on the way but no hits.
My friend is a bank fisherman so I scouted around the cove for him a while then beached the kayak. Not much happened except a bunch of folks driving up to tell us what a great bite that have going on up at Ray Roberts. A few lost fish over the next several hours and finally aroud 5 things started to turn on. Some shad hitting the surface clued us in to move the lines farther out and we started to hook up with some nice sandies in 11 to 9 feet of water suspending the minnows about 3 and 4 feet down. (Lotsa fun on those ultra light crappie rods.) Eventually hooked a nice 15 inch crappie for the pan.
Little windy for the trip back across but minimal boat traffic to contend with. Made it back with just enough daylight to fillet the fish, and clean and stow the gear.

Dinner was still warm!
