We've all seen 'em, the dummies at the boat ramp. I know I have. Seen boats drop off the trailer coming out, seen a truck and trailer in the water a couple of times, seen the inconsiderate people unload their equipment on the ramp. But yesterday takes the prize, I think. This guy RAN OUT OF GAS in his pickup on THE RAMP at the Lighthouse on Texoma! Never seen it or heard of it before. But there he was, just sitting there. Thank goodness his buddy followed him in another car so they could go buy a can and gas. There was a guide waiting to load, but he used another nearby ramp.
You just can't fix stupid, you know.

some people push the limits, and dont understand when you tilt the vehicle on a ramp or incline- the little amount of gas in teh fuel tank will pile up on one end, keeping the pump from sucking it up.. LOL!

yes, its that time again for the ramp jockeys to show up in full force! Loaded my boat saturday next to bubba yelling at his wife cause she wouldnt back the trihull all the way into the water to slide it off the trailer. Felt bad for her, but I mind my own business- ya never know what thier life is like and if they are carrying a weapon.

I have learned to be very patient at the ramp and not get in a hurry so those type fools dont get me irritated. If I have to wait, I usually clean out my truck from the breakfast trash and gas reciepts, etc...

No since in letting those ramp jockeys pull ya down to thier level. I sit back and enjoy the show without trying to laugh too hard at them \:\)

It just amazes me how they seem to get dumber every year. I mean NO common sense whatsoever. These same people are BREEDING too, that's what is REALLY bad. It's almost like that movie, Idiocracy.

Why not give them a hand to get the off the ramp quicker? I have noticed a lot of people just have no clue and are inexperienced and are not really trying to be a pain. I usually try to offer some assistance if I can and use it as a good chance to tell them a little about etiquette and such. We were all in their shoes at one time.

It's really good that no one lives in glass houses.

I have never been in there shoes. If you can't back a trailer don't try to back a boat down a ramp, period..... Start your junk at the house to make sure it will start, and watch what other do it the right way and try to learn from them, on your own time.

I love to just sit at the ramp and watch everyone, especially after the boat shows. All the new people that get all those great deals and tear up on the brand new boats and watch as they cuss each other out a great day on the water turn into a bad day, my wife and I get a ball of laughs out of it.

I want first to say Thanks to all those who have helped me out of the ramps and docks. And second--I am always willing to help someone out. I don't mind the new boater--but I do mind the drunk dumba$$ who wants to make a loud issue of it.

We can all get a good laugh and most of us will.

I've seen guys try to load up a boat by themselves on a high wind day and needed a hand.
I tied my boat line to the dock only to see the line snap and the boat drift off into the lake. Again--thanks to the guy who took me out to get it.
Courtesy breeds courtesy-----and what goes around--comes around.
It make us better prople and better boaters.

I really hate when you pull up to the boat ramp and some cleatus has his crappy molester van parked at the bottom of the ramp with his fishing gear spread out bank fishing with his lines all the way across the the ramp.

Don't you love it when you're idling up to your trailer and the guy next to you goes WOT trying to load his boat while it's on an angle.

two parts of these types of situations that I like the best. First one is when you pull up to a ramp, your boat prepaired, back it into the water, unload it, pull over and beach it or tie it up to a dock, walk back to get your vehicle, park it and make it back to your boat before some people can even get theirs in the water. Makes one wonder how difficult can it be.

The other is sitting in the cove watching it all unfold from the water. So you see both sides of it from beginning to end.

Yes it is that time of season. Don't leave the boat ramp with out your video cameras. AFV is always looking for that next $$$ winner.

i think this one might take the cake . while a FRiend and i were fishing at w/r out of the jon boat ( which we launched close to where we were planning to fish ) . a guy drives up to the ramp unloads his boat and just leaves the truck and trailer right there on the ramp ! we were hoping so hard the the dpd would have drove up and wrote him up a nice little fine but it seems jerks get away with murder these days .

To each his own on helping out. I just am not gonna watcha guy obviously struggling and not at least offer a little help. He can tell me to p*ss off or whatever but at least I know I tried. There's just bigger battles to fight to me.

I will offer a hand if they are struggling and dont look to "proud" to accept. Otherwise I just launch myself and go on my way. You would be surprised how many people would be glad to get a hand.

On the 4th 0f July years ago i see this dummy get out of his car leaving the motor running and the air conditioner on.When his partner gets out he hits the door locks and closes the door. The good news is my wife is only a few miles away and has a spare set of keys.Bad news this is before cell phones and i have to hitch a ride to the keys.I truly found out what people thought of my ancestry that day.If you have never done anything stupid you are not doing enough.

I'm one of those new guys that still has to figure out the loading in the wind scenario. I can unload with the best of them, but loading my 22' Deckboat can be a bear with a little wind.

I was on Canyon Lake a couple of weeks ago and couldn't get the deckboat to load without the rear swinging on me. After a few tries, I told the other pontoon waiting to load to go ahead. After about 6 tries, they finally pushed the pontoon in place and cranked it on. I didn't feel so bad then. I gave it another shot and loaded right up. Yep, this is my first boat and I bought it a the SA boatshow. The way I look at it, everyone started sometime....might have been 30 years ago with a smaller boat, but I'm sure their first few times didn't go as smoothly as it goes now.

I have been on the water four times now and offered help to folks docking their boat twice. Both of them were happy to have the help. Don't be too smug too help someone and don't be too proud to accept a hand if you need it.

Will be on Canyon Lake Saturday, keep an eye out for me...I'm legally blind and can only see about 15 feet...just kidding. I will be on Canyon Saturday...if you're out there...I'll be on the pontoon on steroids.

See ya on the water,
SportFisher

In a windy situation always try to go into the wind if you can and leave the trailer a little shallower.

Been boating all my life. I can load a 22ft deck boat in a hurricane and never miss a puff on my cigar. Took the wife and kids to Grapevine a few years back... leaving about 12 noon when the yahoos are showing up... wife locked keys in truck with it running on ramp. Very embarrassing. Took about 45 mins for locksmith to show and open the doors. I just hid near a pic-nic table until it was time to go. Bought a spare key and magnetic holder shortly thereafter.

Won't tell you guys what I do with my truck keys at the ramp ... but on the topic of offering to assist others, I've yet to have someone be offended by a sincere offer to help (and had a few take me up on it). Likewise, when I'm loading/unloading solo, have had folks offer to help me - sometimes I accept, depending on conditions.

I've tried to load a pontoon boat in a trailer - once - don't want to try it again. Can't imagine doing it in a crosswind.
