if you come across anyone selling a used mercury 250 XB please contact me asap. my cousin had his cougar at service marine over night last week when some freakin meth monkey broke into the shop and literally cut the motor off the back. they even cut the hydrolic steering cables. this motor was a real gim and Bill spent alot of time and money making this merc into what it is. it wasnt your basic stock motor to say the least. i want to find whoever may be trying to sell it and get my hands on them, or atleast point the authorities in there direction. my guess is that this motor will pop up on the market soon, or maybe even the parts. makes my blood boil.

Edit Reason: wrong type of motor!

Seems like they knew about the motor. To break into a shop when there are normally boats with motors in the yard.

Seems they knew how and what they were looking for. How would you even know that a 250 was parked inside? ?They appeared to have known> JMO.

doubt it was someone looking for drug money. They go for quick and easy. Like has been said it was more than likely someone that knew about the motor and what it was and wanted it for their own use.

thank you guys. im sure that insurance will do something for him. he loved that motor and it pisses me off that someone has the cubes and nerve to take it right off the back of the boat. if anyone on the TFF helps me find the people responsible i will get them something as a reward for their time and effort. i hate thieves and i really hate people stealing from my family!!!!

Sounds like it may have taken more than a couple of guys to pull it off as a motor ain't the lightest thing. I agree that it sounds like someone knew what they were looking for and it had to take more than a few minutes. Did they not have an alarm syatem at the shop? Sad part is it will probably be used for parts and never found.

Sucks to hear the bad news and I hope they are found and punished. Also I thought it was not legal to modify the Optis?

im not sure what all mods were done to the motor. it did have a bougar prop on it, and it would outrun my cougar with a 250 hpdi for sure.

Jpost, Texas has "Garage Keepers" Law.

If the place is locked and secured, the shop owner is not responsible for the actions of a third party since they had no control over it.

Now if the shop left the boat sitting out in their parking lot overnight, and it was stolen, then it would be on the shop.

You mean a shop doesn't have to carry insurance to cover things as such.

Wow, I'm a Cat owner, thats one question I will ask for now on about theft loss being covered or, what they do to prevent theft loss.

80+ dollars per hour for service, but no alarm system.

Got to make you think for now on about were to take the boat.

this is in no way meant to dog service marine. i am sure this was something beyond their control. my cuz has used them for for all his bass cat needs, they are good folks. bad things like this can happen at any shop or storage place.

Taking a motor off at someones reputible shop isn't cool no matter how you slice it. This isn't direspecting ones service that they provide, but security sure is in question as of now.

But after this, someone needs to protect their investiment (the boat) since the owner doesn't!

It was a "Meth monkey"? Doubtful, they would have taken days to gt a motor off, plus they would have messed everything up doing it...It was an inside job, someone told somebody

It's NOT. besides the computer will not work right if the motor is messed with. I was curious about that also. I talked to the merc. tech about modifying those engines. it can't be done. YET, anyway.
the boger prop is another story. he's expensive. and good at what he does.

i have read signs stating this at auto repair shops and boat shops.... they are not responsible for theft of personal possession or property when left at shop. I always thought that was amazing but I guess it is standard policy for a shop.

This is really sad!

As if the Lake Fork area businesses needed to take another one on the chin due to another theft!

I understand this sort of thing could happen anywhere, but what are the good citizens of Emory, Alba, Quitman, etc doing to protect the reputation of their 'sacred fishing grounds' ?

Lately, it sure hasn't been pretty!

Sorry for your relative's loss, and I pray you and the local authorities recover the motor and lock up the thieves!

I was there the day the motor was discovered stolen. The boat was not in the shop it was locked up inside the fence and the thieves broke in and stole the motor. I don't think it was an inside job as the owners personal utility trailer was stolen to haul the motor off. If anyone doubts the integrity of these folks they simply do not know them. Not sure about the insurance thing hopefully all will go well. As for the horsepower mods you might be interested to know it was a 250 XB which is an e.f.i. and not the pro XS optimax.
