I went to Benbrook the other day for crappie and caught several yellow bass, I threw them all back. I have never taken any of them home to the freezer, has anyone eaten yellows, I have been told they taste horrible?

They are indeed very good, very white meat equivalent to crappie IMO. But only a few lakes have good sizes and twak is one of them.

If you see any big yellow and the yellow belly isnt really pronounced it is probably a hybrid--still tastey though.

I have caught some sandbass on Tawakoni that had yellow characteristics, like NO toothpatch and one yellow bass with ONE toothpatch. I have heard there are hybrid white x yellow bass. Anyone know anything more?

Anyone know anything more? I just sent in what I thought was a record yellow---ended up being a hybrid yellow/white.

I have also heard that the yellow bass are very good eating, but the people I've heard this from have never eaten one when I asked them. So with that, I decided to try them and last friday while crappie fishing I caught and kept three yellow bass. When we fry these crappie this week I will give them a try and report back here on the TFF.
I know one thing thats not in the yellow bass's favor. The pesky critters steal enough bait that I might EAT them just out of spite!
