if anyone is still looking at this...I went to a specialty shop today and they fixed my turnbuckle or coupler whatever u wanna call it...put it on...at fast idle the prop spins..im sure it's just and adjustment...but my main concern is...the engine won't stay running...once u go to regular idle it putters, then dies...

ok, back from my camping trip.
I really admire that you hung with it & got the overheat problem fixed.
Is that one carb or two? Do they have slow speed adjustment screws?
Bring it down to idle & it dies...carb bowls still full?

man...i wouldn't of been able to get as far as i have without you man...i appreciate all your help! ...it's one carb..it has a slow speed adjustment isn't that the idle screw? I have tried messing with that one to no avail...isn't the carb bowl the thing on the bottom of the carb with the float in it? How i see if it's full?

right, the bowl with the float. there's usually a screw plug you take it out & drain the carb. Usually the hi-speed jet is behind it. But then it would die whether you keep the revs up or not. The idle set screw wouldn't likely be part of the carburetor -- more likely would adjust the timing advance. slow speed needle valve adjusts the air/fuel mixture at idle. this is from iboats: (Carburetor Adjustment - Single S/S Adjustable Needle Valve) (J. Reeves)
Initial setting is: Slow speed = seat gently, then open 1-1/2 turns.
Start engine and set the rpms to where it just stays running. In segments of 1/8 turns, start to turn the S/S needle valve in. Wait a few seconds for the engine to respond. As you turn the valve in, the rpms will increase. Lower the rpms again to where the engine will just stay running.
Eventually you'll hit the point where the engine wants to die out or it will spit back (sounds like a mild backfire). At that point, back out the valve 1/4 turn. Within that 1/4 turn, you'll find the smoothest slow speed setting.
Note: As a final double check setting of the slow speed valve(s), if the engine has more than one carburetor, do not attempt to gradually adjust all of the valves/carburetors at the same time. Do one at a time until you hit the above response (die out or spit back), then go on to the next valve/carburetor. It may be necessary to back out "all" of the slow speed adjustable needle valves 1/8 turn before doing this final adjustment due to the fact that one of the valves might be initially set ever so slightly lean.
When you have finished the above adjustment, you will have no reason to move them again unless the carburetor fouls/gums up from sitting, in which case you would be required to remove, clean, and rebuild the carburetor anyway.

#4 is the slow speed mixture screw.
18-19 is the hi-speed jet; looks like a fixed jet, should be in there tight.
I don't see an idle adjustment in this diagram.

12 is the orfice, this is what I use for mine A screwdriver cut off and sanded down to make a flat tab on the end. Tighter the better. only reason to take 'em out is for cleaning. idle set screw should be somewhere around the throttle/spark advance linkage.

Have you checked compression after reinstalling the cylinder head? You didn't forget to torque the headbolts did ya? nah, didn't think so.

well...LOL...i was hopin you wouldn't ask...they guy at the boat shop told me i shouldn'teven worry about using my torque wrench because it wasn't accurate enough...he told me just be careful i didn't tighten them too much and break the aluminum...I just tightened them in the sequence he told me from the manual (inside, to out) and then after it started for a second and ran...he told me retighten then...and i did...i didn't check compression,i don't have a tester...I think i am taking it to a mechanic this week...to be honest...im so damned stressed out from this engine i wanna scream...im 23 lol shouldn't be THIS stressed, i just wanna get on the water already!!!!!!!!! as of right now...i don't know what to do, im at a stand still...i found a guy who works on my buddies boat for 60-70 and hour and that's cheaper than anywhere else i've found so imma take it to him this week...ill let you know the hopefully...good news!

relax, close your eyes and just keep repeating to yourself, over and over, "compression, spark, fuel"
you'll get there.
