I know about the jetties at the bolivar landing....

Is it possible to get out on the other jetties? I've never fished Galveston, always the Sabine pass area. I want to go start hitting new areas this summer, I'm tired of the SSDD.

BTW, we hit Bailey's last weekend and did well. The reds weren't big, but just goofing off with bottom rigs we picked up 5 in the 17in variety and a few black drum. Lot's of fun, especially when I haven't fished in six months or more...

I'd definitely like to read about any fishing reports on the area you might have. Especially since I'm driving down from Aggieland to fish too!!!

Are you in CS? We MAY be trying to put a trip together next weekend to galveston, I finally figured out how to get out on the south jetti.

Let me know, I'll probably make a post or two about it, carpooling is a good thing, especially when we need to haul rods.

Aggie,

You can get quite a ways out on the north Jetty. It reaches out over a mile. The first half or so even has a semi paved walk way so carrying your gear is easy...however if you want to get away from all the other anglers and tourists you can continue to walk on out to the boat cut which can be fantastic fishing. The walking is a little more difficult since its just stacked granite boulders so wear some shoes with good tread....it's a bit of work getting out that far but worth it in my opinion...the water will be about 10 or 12 feet deep on the Gulf side....and drops off to about 20 ft. deep on the ship channel side. ...Also if you bring your own cast nest you can cast up your own fresh bait right there so you dont have to lug a bucket of water and bait across the boulders. I just "google earthed" it and its about 1.87 miles from the time you set foot on the jetty out to the boat cut.....One more tip on the cast netting thing. do NOT let the net sink all the way to the bottom. The boulders are covered with sharp oyster shell and other rough edges...this will make quick work of your net in short order.

I am definitely in CS, at least till the end of the summer time. Looking forward to trying out both salt and freshwater all summer long, as long work allows for it.

You can run your boat thru the boat cut at any tide level, however, the water is moving pretty good at times, so use good judgement and be courteous as there are usually people fishing right at the cut so dont go thru at full throttle, back down way before you get to it as there may be someone else coming from the other side.

I went to the south jetty this weekend. It was awful. the paved walk way is filled with slimey seaweed. it's completely broken up, so you can't roll anything out there. the waves come up on the jetty and get you completely wet. my bait and tackle box were both pushed into the water by the waves. i could not even fish because the water kept coming over. it was not a fun experience. i would recommend anyone wanting to go to a jetty to go the north jetty across the ferry or fish at the ferry landing on the galveston side.
