Speed, where are the gas wells at the dike? Are they referring to the area to the right of the dike? Back up towards the main land? Thanks for help.

I don't know of the wells. They wade fish the bank from the dike ,going inland to the end by the gate.Going out o the dike they also wade the left side, close in by the islands. They catch flounder by the old boat docks on the right going out.The catch alot of big drum and reds on the right, channel side, out by the end.Look at some of the pictures on the web site and check the channel platforms on the right. You have to cast far out,lot of hangups. You have to watch it on the weekend at night, lot o gangs, drugs, prostitutes.watch for TCD posts,he fishes their alot. They use crabs for the big drum.Good luck.

So, in your opinion, launching from the dike on weekends and running out to the jetties, we could be asking for problems with regards to our truck and trailer? When we come down, usually its for the entire weekend and we use the ramp for a base camp. Fish the morning, come back in, play around a bit, fish the evening into the night. Come back in and sleep on the boat and start the process all over again. If its not safe to do so, wherer would you recommend? Last year we did this from Bolivar, but I was trying to make shorter boat runs. I primarly will be fishing for Shark. Thanks Bill

I don't know for a fact,it's just what I have read on surf-Masters.I would go to Surf-Masters,they fish mostly for big sharks and reds&drums. They kayak baits out from the beach around High Island and catch 5-8' sharks. They have get togethers on the beach and sleep there on the beach.Go to Surf-Masters and checkout the pictures.

I have never encountered any problems on the dike other than the occasional drunk. Just don't leave anything out in the open at night or when you are gone fishing. If you've never been there, be advised that the dike road is a POS.

If you've never been there, be advised that the dike road is a POS. I'll second that one for sure!! Grew up down there and usually make a run just to see how bad it gets about every 3-4 months. It's a great place for fishing, just have to put up with the trash, inconsiderate people, druggies, vandals and such.

Guys the Texas city dike is like any other place you leave your stuff in the open and not lock it up someone will borrow it permanently! I have wade fished the dike for many years before I got a boat to get out on the water, and never had anything stolen but then again I lock everything up. I still go to the dike and use the last boat ramp to launch my boat and still have never had any problems. (but I also do not leave anything out to be borrowed from me. Like anywhere you leave stuff out and someone will borrow it permanently!!!!!!!

Oh and the one bad thing I will say is that the road has not been resurface in a very long time and it does need some work, outside of that it is not a bad place.

POS=PIECE OF *#%@ The dike is no worse than the jetties or the beach as far as safety goes.

Mainly we carry a lot of coolers full of ice for entire weekend. That is what would be left out in the back of truck. That would suck for people to steal it, but I am sure they would. Especially with a trailer hooked up knowing we were away from the area.

As far as I am aware of , the Wells at the dike are visible just to the left side of the dike as you approach the last ramp. Once you launch you head towards the Bolivar shoreline and there you are. Any good map will easily show their location. They have produced everything from decent trout to sheepshead, sharks, jack crevalle, and I even caught a Ling from that area. Watch the tide as it moves through there pretty good. There are plenty of bait stands along the Dike to get your ice , so no need to bring alot of coolers, just refill the ones you can keep with you.

Guys what I am saying is theifs are made and they are made by us! I have left ice chest in back of truck and never had any thing messed with, and yes I go out on the boat it sat in the back of the truck with the boat trailer on it and no one never got it. It doesn't matter where you are.

Oh, I have caught some small spinner sharks 2-3 ft, they are real acrobatic, and a blacktip,2-3 ft ", as well as a 3-4 foot sand shark, and Bonnethead or Scalloped Hammerheads. None were to large, though I have had my line cut several times by something larger. With a good tide you never know what you will catch in that area, it is close to the ship channel and easy for fish to move in and out.
